At level 30 in MapleStory Classic World, go back to the instructor who gave you your 1st job and start the 2nd job advancement. It's a short quest chain: you carry a letter to a Job Instructor, collect 30 Dark Marbles in a hidden test map, and bring the Proof of a Hero back to pick your path. After that, it's new skills, new training maps, and a few quests worth saving for 35.

Quick checklist: 1) Free up some Use inventory slots. 2) Talk to your 1st job instructor. 3) Deliver the letter to your Job Instructor. 4) Collect 30 Dark Marbles. 5) Return the Proof of a Hero and choose your path. Then move up to level 30+ training maps.

The 2nd job chain, step by step

The chain is the same for every class. Only the NPCs and places change. Steps from the launch game data:

  1. "Next Journey" quest. Talk to your instructor. 4,780 EXP.
  2. Finding the Instructor. Your instructor gives you a letter for your class's Job Instructor. Deliver it for another 4,780 EXP.
  3. Test of Qualification. The Job Instructor sends you into a hidden area. Defeat the monsters there and collect 30 Dark Marbles.
  4. Proof of Qualification. Trade the marbles for The Proof of a Hero and take it back to your instructor.
  5. Choose your 2nd job.

The two EXP rewards add up to 9,560 EXP. Level 30 to 31 needs 95,700, so the chain alone is about a tenth of your level.

Keep Use slots free. Before Grand Launch, the 2nd job advancement could fail and remove the quest item if your Use inventory was full. Nexon fixed it in the Grand Launch patch, but a few empty slots cost you nothing.

Pick your path carefully

Your 2nd job is permanent, and with no 3rd job in the game yet, it's what you'll play up to the level 100 cap. Read your class page first: Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief. Why it's permanent: can you change your job.

After the advancement

  • Spend your new SP. If you regret a 1st job skill, the SP Reset Scroll (7,000 NX) resets all non-Beginner skills. See can you reset AP and SP.
  • Move up a training tier. Check accuracy before you jump to higher-level monsters. Spots: where to train from level 30.
  • Do the Mark of the Beta event if you haven't. It's open to level 25+ until November 18, starting with Jay in Henesys.
  • Save Shumi for 35. Shumi's three Construction Site jump quests open at level 35 and each gives 6,720 EXP plus return scrolls, Blue Potions or Mana Elixirs. More on when quests beat grinding: should you quest or grind.
  • Look ahead to November. Nexon says Forgotten Hollow, Classic World's own higher-level area, opens in November.
