The Fire/Poison Wizard is the Magician's damage-over-time path: Fire Arrow burns down single targets, Poison Breath poisons groups, and Meditation buffs your whole party's magic attack. In a community DPS benchmark at level 70 it's the hardest-hitting Magician on a single target and the best Magician at mobbing, though Poison Breath is expensive on MP.

Quick answer: Teleport 1 at 30, max Fire Arrow (31โ€“40), then Poison Breath (41โ€“50), then MP Eater 3 โ†’ Meditation, MP Eater, Teleport. Go Poison Breath first only if you reliably hit 3+ mobs per cast. AP: mostly INT, LUK only for wand requirements. Avoid fire-resistant mobs like Fire Boars and Drakes with Fire Arrow.

Becoming an F/P Wizard

At Lv 30, talk to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia. He sends you to the Magician Job Instructor in The Forest North of Ellinia for the Dark Marble test (30 marbles, per the quest data), which you trade for The Proof of a Hero. Bring it back and choose Wizard (Fire/Poison); the 2nd job quest guide has the details. Finish your 1st job build first; community guides say 2nd job SP can't be spent on 1st job skills. See the Magician 1โ€“30 guide.

F/P Wizard skills

Max levels, MP costs, prerequisites and effects are from the Classic World skill data.

Old numbers you may still see

Some community pages still carry pre-launch numbers (Fire Arrow 130 + 30 burn, Poison Breath 40 with a 4-mob explosion and 30 poison over 8 sec). The Classic World launch skill data settles it: the values in the table above, with Poison Breath reaching 6 mobs. A community skill-change log says Poison Breath's text changed between the second Closed Online Test and launch, which explains the old figures.

Fire Arrow or Poison Breath first?

One community test compared both orders at level 40 on the top map from a community training calculator:

Mobs hit per Poison BreathFire Arrow firstPoison Breath first
13,286 EXP/min2,741 EXP/min
23,2863,908
33,2865,862
43,2867,815

On paper Poison Breath wins from 2 mobs per cast. The same community guide still recommends Fire Arrow first, because spread-out mobs rarely give you 2+ per cast and Fire Arrow works on every map. Swap the order only if you can consistently hit 3 or more mobs every cast.

Two timing notes from the same source:

  • On neutral mobs, keep using Energy Bolt or Magic Claw until Fire Arrow reaches skill level 21 (around level 37).
  • On fire-weak mobs, Fire Arrow wins from skill level 13 (around level 35). Fire-resistant mobs like Fire Boar need Fire Arrow 30 before it beats Energy Bolt.

SP build: levels 30โ€“70

The default order from a community guide, based on a community level 70 F/P build:

LevelsSpendRunning total
30Teleport +1TP 1
31โ€“40Fire Arrow +30FA 30
41โ€“50Poison Breath +30PB 30
51MP Eater +3MPE 3 (unlocks Meditation)
52โ€“58Meditation +20, MP Eater +1Med 20 / MPE 4
59โ€“64MP Eater +16, Teleport +2MPE 20 / TP 3
65โ€“70Teleport +17, Slow +1TP 20 / Slow 1

Variations the same guide suggests:

  • Mostly single targets? After Fire Arrow 30, take MP Eater 3 at 41 and max Meditation before Poison Breath. That guide estimates up to 12% more single-target damage between levels 42 and 55.
  • Need mobility? Put points into Teleport right after Fire Arrow 30. Teleport 10 costs 37 MP and moves 128 distance (skill data).
  • Don't spam Teleport 1. It costs 55 MP a jump.

AP build

The same community build targets 299 base INT and 63 base LUK at level 70:

LevelsAP each levelBase stats at the end
31โ€“40INT +3 / LUK +2172 INT / 40 LUK
41โ€“63INT +4 / LUK +1264 INT / 63 LUK
64โ€“70INT +5299 INT / 63 LUK

LUK exists only for weapon requirements. Check your total LUK with gear before adding more base LUK; anything extra belongs in INT.

Gear

Weapon checkpoints from the same community build (stats match the item data):

LevelWeaponM.ATKRequires
30Mithril Wand5560 INT / 20 LUK
40Fairy Wand6980 INT / 30 LUK
45Arc Staff7390 INT / 40 LUK
50Cromi83100 INT / 40 LUK
55Thorns87110 INT / 50 LUK
60Evil Tale97120 INT / 55 LUK
65Evil Wings101130 INT / 60 LUK

Mithril Wand (Arcforge 6), Fairy Wand (Arcforge 8), Arc Staff (Arcforge 9) and Cromi (Arcforge 10) can be crafted; Thorns, Evil Tale and Evil Wings have no recipe or quest reward in the launch data, and drop sources and shop stock aren't in the game data, so those come from other players.

Spells ignore weapon speed, so take the highest M.ATK you can wear. For a shield, community testing rates the Pan Lid (about 8.09% block) above the Esther Shield (about 5.30% block, but 55 M.DEF). On gloves, Magic Attack scrolls beat Critical Rate scrolls on a community level 70 build. Stay a Kerning City citizen for its robe scrolls.

Fire and poison matchups

A weakness means +25% damage and a resistance means -25%; community damage rules agree on that 1.25ร—/0.75ร—. The skill descriptions confirm that resistant mobs can't be burned or poisoned. The lists below are every live monster with a fire or poison element in the Classic World monster data.

Fire-weak: the Stump family (Stump Lv 5, Dark Stump 11, Axe Stump 17, Ghost Stump 19, Dark Axe Stump 23), Ligator (31), Jr. Wraith (34), Stumpy (35), Mushmom (40), Cold Eye (40), Croco (52).

Fire-resistant: Fire Boar (Lv 32), Copper Drake (45), Drake (50), Malady (55), Dark Stone Golem (58), Red Drake (60).

Poison-weak: Fairy 2, 3 and 4 (Lv 29). They're rare spawns (2โ€“3 per map at most), so don't build a map plan around them.

Poison-resistant: Curse Eye (Lv 33), Jr. Boogie 1 and 2 (35), Shade (48), Stone Golem (56), Dark Stone Golem (58). Poison-immune: Green Mushroom (14), Commander Skeleton (73) and Jr. Balrog (80). Zombie Mushmom and the other undead have no poison resistance in the data.

Map-by-map picks are in F/P Wizard training spots.

MP and potions

Fire Arrow is fairly cheap; Poison Breath (40 MP at max) and early Teleport are not. Community shop math: every 100 incoming damage costs about 90 mesos to refill through Magic Guard 15, versus 50 mesos with Guard off, so use Guard only when you're at risk of dying. MP Eater does nothing on 0-MP mobs, which includes the fire-weak Ligators, so bring extra Lemons there.

Where F/P stands

From a community DPS benchmark at level 70 (using endgame community gear, much of it not available until Ossyria opens):

  • Single target: 8th of 10 2nd jobs with Fire Arrow, about 159,952 damage per minute, the best of the three Magician paths.
  • Mobbing: 4th of 8 AoE classes with Poison Breath at six targets, about 615,199 damage per minute, ahead of I/L's Thunder Bolt.
  • Party value: Meditation adds 25 Magic Attack to nearby party members. It does nothing for physical attackers.

After level 70

F/P Wizards become F/P Mages with Robeira in El Nath, but El Nath and 3rd job aren't in Classic World yet. Community sources report a 3rd job test server is planned for early 2027; we haven't seen an official Nexon date.

Frequently asked questions

Should F/P max Fire Arrow or Poison Breath first in Classic?
Fire Arrow first for most players, per community testing. Poison Breath first only pays off if you consistently hit 3 or more mobs per cast.
How many monsters does Poison Breath hit in Classic World?
Up to six. The Classic World skill data gives the explosion a 6-mob cap; the "four" you may see comes from older pre-launch data.
When should an F/P Wizard stop using Energy Bolt?
On neutral mobs, around skill level 21 Fire Arrow (level 37). On fire-weak mobs, from skill level 13 (level 35).
Does poison stack in MapleStory Classic?
No. Community sources say recasting on a poisoned mob refreshes the timer instead of adding a second poison.
What does Meditation do?
At max level it gives nearby party members +25 Magic Attack for 300 seconds. It only boosts spells.
Is F/P better than I/L in Classic World?
In a community DPS benchmark at level 70, F/P does more single-target and more AoE damage, but I/L's Cold Beam is cheaper on MP. See our path comparison for the full trade-off.
