Starting Stats and AP in MapleStory Classic World: No Dice, 5 AP per Level, How to Allocate
There is no dice roll in MapleStory Classic World. Every character starts with 4 in STR, DEX, INT and LUK, you place 9 more points yourself on the creation screen, and from then on you get 5 AP every level. AP you spend stays spent unless you use an AP Reset.
Quick answer: 4/4/4/4 floor + 9 free AP = 25 total at level 1. +5 AP per level after that. No stat gate for 1st job according to the fan databases that track the live game. Put AP into your class's main stat, and only add the secondary stat when a weapon or your accuracy actually needs it.
The dice are gone
Veterans remember rerolling the dice on the creation screen for a good spread. Classic World removed that. Two independent community sources describe the same system: starting stats are "chosen, not rolled", and the 4/4/4/4 floor counts as 16 points of your starting AP.
| Points | |
|---|---|
| Floor (4 in each stat) | 16 |
| Free points to place at creation | 9 |
| Total at level 1 | 25 |
| Highest one stat can start at (4 + 9) | 13 |
The most common opening you'll see in guides is 12 in your class's main stat, 5 in its secondary and 4 in the other two. Community beginner guides list it that way for every class, and a community Night Lord leveling guide shows the same 12 LUK / 5 DEX / 4 / 4 for a Thief.
| Class | Main stat | Typical opening |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | STR | 12 STR, 5 DEX, 4 INT, 4 LUK |
| Magician | INT | 12 INT, 5 LUK, 4 STR, 4 DEX |
| Bowman | DEX | 12 DEX, 5 STR, 4 INT, 4 LUK |
| Thief | LUK | 12 LUK, 5 DEX, 4 STR, 4 INT |
Pick your class before you make the character. Every class takes 1st job at level 10 (Nexon), Magicians included, so there's no early Magician advancement to plan around.
AP per level
You get 5 AP per level. One community formula page writes total AP as 25 + 5 × (level − 1), so a level 30 character has 170 AP in total, 16 of which are the fixed floor.
One thing the sources don't agree on: one community reference says AP is auto-allocated to Beginner stats until level 11, while community class guides tell you to place your own 5 AP every level from level 1. Check your Stats window after your first level-up. If the points are waiting for you, place them.
Is there a stat requirement for 1st job?
Community beginner guides say 1st job "has no stat requirements", and one lists 1st job at level 10 with "no stat requirement". Other community references still list old-style gates (STR 35 for Warrior, INT 20 for Magician, DEX 25 for Bowman and Thief). Nexon's launch notes only mention the level.
So: don't dump AP into DEX just to become a Thief, or into STR as a future Magician. Two databases built from the live client say there is no gate. If you hit a wall at the instructor, tell us.
What the game data does show is the stat your first weapon needs, and that's a better target for your Beginner AP: the level 10 Thief claw (Garnier) needs 25 LUK and the Triangular Zamadar dagger 20 LUK (no DEX), the War Bow and Crossbow need 25 DEX, the Wooden Wand 20 INT, and the Long Sword 20 STR.
How to allocate by class
What follows is what the sources recommend, based on how the damage formula works. Assumptions: a normal damage build, not a "pure" or "dexless" experiment.
- Your main stat gets the multiplier. In the physical damage formula, your main stat is multiplied by a weapon factor (1.8 for a one-handed sword swing, 2.5 for a bow shot), while the secondary stat is added flat, per community damage-formula write-ups. Points in the main stat are worth more. Full breakdown in our damage formula guide.
- Secondary stat only to meet requirements. Weapons have stat requirements. Community class guides (the Thief guides, for example) say to add the secondary stat when your next weapon or armor needs it, not before.
- Don't ignore accuracy. Accuracy in Classic uses DEX (INT for Magicians), LUK and your level. If you train on monsters above your level you'll miss a lot. See accuracy and hit rate.
| Class | Main | Secondary (damage formula) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior (sword, axe, blunt, spear, polearm) | STR | DEX |
| Bowman (bow, crossbow) | DEX | STR |
| Thief (dagger, claw) | LUK | STR + DEX |
| Magician | INT | LUK has no damage role, but it feeds accuracy |
One community Warrior guide gives a concrete example: start 12 STR / 5 DEX and put every point into STR through level 10, which lands at 57 STR and 5 DEX. Class pages go deeper: Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief.
AP Reset
An AP Reset in Classic resets all of your stats at once, including AP you put into HP and MP. It doesn't move one point at a time like the old version. Nexon's Cash Shop post confirms it: the AP Reset Scroll costs 7,000 NX, resets all stats including AP in HP/MP, and needs level 10.
AP doesn't reset when you take 1st job either, so a point you misplace at level 5 follows you into your job.
Common mistakes
- Stacking a stat "for the job gate". As above, the fan databases say there isn't one.
- Spreading points evenly. The secondary stat has no weapon multiplier, so an even split wastes damage.
- Zero accuracy planning. A Warrior with almost no DEX misses a lot above their level.
- Leaving AP unspent. Check the Stats window after every level-up.
- Assuming old-GMS rules. HP washing and the old one-point AP reset don't carry over. See HP and MP gain.
