Can You Change Your Job in MapleStory Classic World? No, Here's What You Can Reset
No. In MapleStory Classic World a job advancement is permanent. Once you become a Warrior, Magician, Bowman or Thief at level 10, or pick your 2nd job path at level 30, there's no NPC or item that switches you to another job. What you can undo is your stat and skill spending, with an AP Reset or SP Reset Scroll.
Quick answer: no job change. Even the game warns you: Phil's quest text in Lith Harbor says a job advancement "cannot be undone once made". Your options are an AP/SP reset (7,000 NX each) or a new character in one of your 3 slots.
The game tells you before you choose
Right after you land on Victoria Island, Phil in Lith Harbor gives you Phil's Call. It explains where each class advances and ends with your character thinking that a job advancement can't be undone, so you'd better choose carefully. Community databases agree: advancements are permanent.
It applies to both steps:
| Step | Level | What locks in |
|---|---|---|
| 1st job | 10 | Warrior, Magician, Bowman or Thief |
| 2nd job | 30 | Your path inside that class (for example Fighter, Page or Spearman) |
Your 1st job also decides which 2nd jobs you can pick later. A Thief can only become an Assassin or a Bandit, never a Hunter. Full table: job advancement guide.
What you can change
| You want to... | Can you? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Move AP to different stats | Yes | AP Reset Scroll, 7,000 NX, from level 10. Resets all stats, including AP put in HP/MP |
| Respec your skills | Yes | SP Reset Scroll, 7,000 NX. Resets all skills except Beginner skills |
| Switch from Thief to Warrior | No | Make a new character |
| Switch from Assassin to Bandit | No | Make a new character |
An SP Reset only gives you back your points inside your current job tree. It doesn't reopen the 2nd job choice. Prices and the cheaper bundle are on our AP and SP reset page.
Before you advance
Since you can't take it back, a few habits help:
- Stay a Beginner until you're sure. 1st job is available from level 10, so the Beginner levels are your trial period. Watch other players around Lith Harbor and read the class pages.
- You don't need to pre-stack stats for a job. Community beginner guides say 1st job has no stat requirement in Classic. Some older-style guides still list the old gates, so sources disagree there. Our starting stats guide covers it.
- AP you spend as a Beginner stays spent. One community beginner guide points out that advancing doesn't reset your AP. If you put points into the wrong stat at level 5, only an AP Reset fixes it.
- Pick your 2nd job with the long run in mind. With the cap at 100 and no 3rd job yet, your 2nd job path is what you'll play for a long time.
If you really want a different class
Make another character. You get 3 per account, and storage and housing are shared, so a new character can borrow mesos and gear from your first one. See how many characters per account.
