Fighter Guide for MapleStory Classic World: Skills, SP Build, AP and Gear (Lv 30โ70)
The Fighter is the Warrior's sword-or-axe 2nd job. You still kill things with Power Strike and Slash Blast; the Fighter kit makes them hit harder and cheaper: Rage for Attack Power (party-wide), Mastery and Booster for your weapon, a 3-target Final Attack, and Rush to pull mobs together. In a community level 70 model it is the most MP-efficient 2nd job in the game.
Quick answer: Rush 1 at 30 โ Rage 1 + Mastery at 31 โ Mastery 5 (opens Booster) โ max Mastery by 38 โ max Rage by 48 โ max Final Attack by 57 โ Booster, then Rush. AP: STR, plus only the DEX your next weapon needs. Pick sword or axe before you spend Mastery SP.
The Fighter advancement at level 30
The quest data lays it out: talk to Dances with Balrog in Perion and start The Warrior's Next Journey, take his letter to the Warrior Job Instructor in West Rocky Mountain IV, enter the test and collect 30 Dark Marbles, then return with The Proof of a Hero and choose Fighter. Step-by-step details are in the 2nd job quest guide.
Before you go, finish your 1st job build; community guides say 2nd job SP can't be spent on 1st job skills. The usual community 1st job endpoint is Power Strike 20, Slash Blast 19, Precise Strikes 15, Improved HP Recovery 3, Max HP Increase 3 and Iron Body 1 (see the Warrior 1โ30 guide).
Note for veterans: Power Guard is not a Fighter skill in Classic World. Community data lists it in the 3rd job Crusader book; the Fighter gets Rush instead.
Fighter skills
Max levels, prerequisites, costs and the "at max" effects below are from the Classic World skill data.
| Skill | Max | Requires | At max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword Mastery / Axe Mastery | 20 | None | Mastery 10. Sword adds +20 Accuracy; Axe adds a 25% bleed chance |
| Sword Booster / Axe Booster | 20 | Matching Mastery Lv 5 | +2 Attack Speed stages for 300 sec (100 sec at Lv 1). Costs HP and MP: 30 each at Lv 1, falling to 10 each at max |
| Final Attack: Sword / Axe | 30 | Matching Mastery Lv 3 | 25% chance, 200% damage, up to 3 mobs, 20 HP + 18 MP per proc |
| Rage | 30 | None | +40 Attack Power, โ40 WDEF, 300 sec, party. 10 MP at Lv 1, 25 MP at max |
| Rush | 20 | None | 80% damage, 6 mobs, 15 MP at max (35 MP at Lv 1) |
Mastery, Booster and Final Attack only work with their own weapon family. One-handed and two-handed versions of the same family share them, so you can swap a 1H sword for a 2H sword freely, but not a sword for an axe.
SP build: levels 30โ70
This is a community order, built around a popular two-handed axe Fighter build. Sword Fighters swap in the sword version of each skill at the same levels.
| Level | Spend | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | Rush +1 | Rush 1 |
| 31 | Rage +1, Mastery +2 | Rage 1, Mastery 2 |
| 32 | Mastery +3 | Mastery 5 (opens Booster) |
| 33 | Booster +1, Final Attack +1, Mastery +1 | Booster 1, FA 1, Mastery 6 |
| 34โ37 | Mastery +12 | Mastery 18 |
| 38 | Mastery +2, Final Attack +1 | Mastery 20, FA 2 |
| 39โ47 | Rage +27 | Rage 28 |
| 48 | Rage +2, Final Attack +1 | Rage 30, FA 3 |
| 49โ57 | Final Attack +27 | FA 30 |
| 58โ63 | Booster +18 | Booster 19 |
| 64 | Booster +1, Rush +2 | Booster 20, Rush 3 |
| 65โ69 | Rush +15 | Rush 18 |
| 70 | Rush +2, spare point | Rush 20, 1 SP parked |
Two tweaks community guides suggest: take Booster to 10 right after max Mastery if MP is tight (Lv 1 already gives the full speed boost; extra points cut upkeep), or put Rush to 10 early (26 MP and a little more distance) if your map rewards grouping. Don't max Rush early: at 35 MP a cast, Rush 1 spam drains your wallet.
Grind loop: max Rage and Booster both last 300 seconds, so refresh them together. Rush to group, then Power Strike singles and Slash Blast packs.
Rage, in numbers
Rage by level, from the skill data:
| Rage level | MP | Attack Power | WDEF | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | +10 | โ10 | 150 sec |
| 16 | 17 | +25 | โ25 | 225 sec |
| 30 | 25 | +40 | โ40 | 300 sec |
Some community sources say the party area grows at level 16; the skill data doesn't list an area, so treat that as unconfirmed. On a popular community level 70 build, max Rage adds about 8.6% to average Power Strike damage. Rage only affects physical attacks, so it does nothing for your Magician's spells.
Final Attack: on or off?
Fighter's Final Attack is the only Warrior one that hits up to three mobs; Page and Spearman versions hit one. A community comparison at max level:
| You attack with | Mobs in front | FA on vs off |
|---|---|---|
| Power Strike | 1 | 3% less damage |
| Slash Blast | 1โ3 | 12% more |
| Slash Blast | 4 | 5% more |
| Slash Blast | 6 | 3% less |
So: on while Slash Blasting small groups, off for single targets and bosses. Each proc costs 20 HP and 18 MP, so if MP is your limit, keep it on only while Slash Blast hits three mobs or fewer.
Sword or axe? Shield or two-hander?
Community damage comparisons settle most of it:
- Axe deals more average damage: about 3.5% (1H) and 4.5% (2H) ahead of swords at level 30, before counting Axe Mastery's bleed.
- Sword gives steadier rolls and Sword Mastery's +20 Accuracy. Steadier minimum damage makes guaranteed one- and two-hit kills easier.
- Two-handed beats one-handed on raw damage. At level 70, a community 2H axe build (Chrono) models 238,462 damage per minute against 207,239 for a 1H sword (Red Katana).
- One-handed + shield trades that damage for Guard, which can fully block eligible physical hits: 18.0% Guard on a clean Red Cross Shield, 27.7% on a Gold Ancient Shield.
AP and accuracy
Same rule as 1st job: total DEX only as high as your next weapon needs, everything else into STR. A community sample, starting from 135 STR / 27 DEX at level 30:
| Levels | Per level | Base stats at end |
|---|---|---|
| 31โ36 | 3 STR, 2 DEX | 153 STR / 39 DEX |
| 37โ57 | 4 STR, 1 DEX | 237 STR / 60 DEX |
| 58โ70 | 5 STR | 302 STR / 60 DEX |
Level 70 two-handers need 70 DEX; the sample gets the last 10 from its hat and shoes. If your gear gives more DEX, stop base DEX lower.
Accuracy is the real wall after 30. Community data lists what you need for a 100% hit rate when you're the mob's level:
| Mob (level) | ACC for 100% |
|---|---|
| Jr. Wraith (34) | 82 |
| Zombie Lupin (41) | 95 |
| Wraith (48) | 104 |
| Croco (52) | 101 |
| Wild Kargo (62) | 117 |
The sample Fighter has 73 ACC at level 30, which is why freshly advanced Fighters often stay on lower mobs for a few levels. Fighting above your level raises these numbers.
Gear by level
Community weapon checkpoints (W.ATK in brackets, confirmed against the item data):
| Level | One-handed | Two-handed |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | Gladius (47), Fireman's Axe (47) | Scimitar (53), Blue Axe (50) |
| 40 | Traus (60), Blue Counter (57) | Zard (60), Sabretooth (60) |
| 50 | Jeweled Katar (70), Buck (70) | Lion's Fang (73), The Rising (73) |
| 60 | Neocora (77), Hawkhead (77) | Sparta (83), The Shining (80) |
| 70 | Red Katana (87), Mikhail (87) | Doombringer (93), Chrono (93) |
Where they come from: of these, only Sabretooth (Weaponcrafting 8) and The Rising (Weaponcrafting 10) have a crafting recipe in the launch data. None is a quest reward, and drop sources and shop stock aren't in the game data, so the rest come from other players. At level 30 that means trading for one of the four picks or keeping your level 25 weapon.
Glove scrolls: Community math says Attack over Critical Rate for Fighters. Five Lesser Attack scrolls are about 3.7% more expected damage than five Crit Rate scrolls on the level 70 build.
Where to train
Short version from a community training calculator: Line 1 <Area 1> at 30โ34, the Ant Tunnels through the 30s and early 40s, The Burnt Land in the late 40s, then Monkey Forest and The Forest of Evil from 50. Full tables with alternatives are in Fighter training spots.
What's next: Crusader
Fighters advance to Crusader through Tylus in El Nath, but third job and El Nath aren't in Classic World yet. Community reports say Nexon has no date and plans a 3rd job test server in early 2027. Until then, your 2nd job build is your endgame. Weighing the other branches? See Fighter vs Page vs Spearman.
