The Bandit is the dagger Thief: in your face, Savage Blow spam, highest single-target damage of any 2nd job at level 70. Most Bandits don't start that way, though. The popular route is the Sindit: keep throwing Lucky Seven after 2nd job, then reset into a dagger build around level 40 once Savage Blow can carry you.

Quick answer: Sindit = Lucky Seven until about 40, then an SP Reset Scroll into Dagger Mastery + Savage Blow. No-reset Bandit = max Double Stab in 1st job, then Dagger Mastery 20 before Savage Blow. Either way Savage Blow is maxed by level 47. AP: dagger DEX (its level minus 5), everything else LUK.

Becoming a Bandit

At level 30, the Dark Lord in Kerning City starts The Thief's Next Journey. Take his letter to the Thief Job Instructor at Construction Site North of Kerning City, collect 30 Dark Marbles, trade them for The Proof of a Hero, and choose Bandit. Coming from the Thief 1โ€“30 guide, you'll most likely have max Lucky Seven and Keen Eyes. That's fine. Keep your claw and stars.

Bandit skills (launch values)

At max level, as read from the launch client:

SkillMaxAt max level
Savage Blow306 hits at 75% each (450% total), 28 MP
Steal30180% to up to 2 mobs, 90% steal chance; success stuns and gives +35 Attack Power for 60 sec
Dagger Mastery20Mastery 10, +20% Critical Rate, 20% chance to ignore knockback
Dagger Booster20+2 attack speed stages, 300 sec, 10 HP / 10 MP
Haste20Party Speed +30, Jump +10 for 300 sec
Nimble Recovery20Recover 10% HP and MP on an evade, 100% chance

Savage Blow breakpoints: it hits 4 times at levels 1โ€“10, 5 times at 11โ€“20 and 6 times from 21. The sixth hit at skill level 21 is the big one.

Steal is a real damage tool, not a gimmick. One community calculation puts the +35 Attack Power at about 9.1% more damage to both Savage Blow and Double Stab at level 70. Each mob can only be stolen from once, but you can retry until it works.

Note: an older pre-launch Steal write-up lists 200% damage and a 30-second buff. Launch data says 180% and 60 seconds.

Dagger Booster gives the full two-stage speed boost at skill level 1; more points only extend it (100 sec at Lv 1, 300 sec at Lv 20).

The Sindit route (with SP reset)

"Sindit" is the community name for a Bandit who levels like an Assassin. Community guides recommend it as the easier way to level: you skip the slow, melee 1st job, take fewer hits and save pots, then become a full dagger Bandit later.

How it works:

  1. Levels 10โ€“30: normal Lucky Seven Thief build (Lucky Seven, Nimble Body and Keen Eyes maxed).
  2. Levels 30โ€“39: become a Bandit, keep throwing Lucky Seven. One popular community plan puts the first Bandit SP into Haste (maxed by 37), then a few points of Nimble Recovery, because Lucky Seven already handles damage.
  3. Around level 40: use an SP Reset Scroll. It resets every skill except Beginner skills, first job included. Rebuild as a dagger Bandit. It's 7,000 NX in the Cash Shop, per Nexon's Cash Shop post.
  4. After the reset: A common community level 40 rebuild is Dagger Mastery 20, Dagger Booster 1 and Savage Blow 10, with first-job SP moved into Double Stab. Attack with Double Stab at 40โ€“41, switch to Savage Blow once it's around skill level 16 (level 42).

Why level 40?

A community level 40 comparison (clean gear, 0 WDEF target):

AttackDamage per attackDamage per minuteDamage per MP
Lucky Seven 20 (claw)61551,00438.4
Double Stab 20 (Gephart)70270,21043.9
Savage Blow 21 (Gephart)85671,01135.6

After the reset you jump about 39% in damage per minute over Lucky Seven, mostly because a level 40 dagger is a big upgrade. Community sample runs show the first clean-gear breakpoint against Lucky Seven at level 36, but 40 is the practical reset point. Your own dagger can move it earlier or later.

Spending the 61 first-job SP after the reset

Community guides give three valid layouts:

OptionNimble BodyDisorderDark SightDouble Stab
Max Double Stab1520620
Max Dark Sight1520206
Max both1562020

Max Double Stab is the common pick: it's the cheaper attack when it kills as well as Savage Blow does. Other community dagger Bandit builds land on the same layout.

The no-reset dagger Bandit

Never want to buy a reset? Then level 10โ€“30 on Double Stab (Double Stab 20, Nimble Body 15, and the rest into Disorder and Dark Sight) and accept a slower, melee 1st job.

At 30, community guides push Dagger Mastery early, because it raises your minimum hit, which decides guaranteed kills. One community benchmark puts it at about 4,436 EXP/min at level 39 with Mastery first against 3,636 with Savage Blow first.

LevelsPlan 1 (no reset)Plan 2
30โ€“32Haste 1, Dagger Mastery 5, Booster 1Dagger Mastery 5, Booster 1
33โ€“37Dagger Mastery 20Savage Blow to 11 (by 36)
38โ€“47Savage Blow 30 (21 by 44)Dagger Mastery 20 (by 41), Savage Blow 30 (by 47)
48โ€“70Haste 20, Nimble Recovery 12, Steal 30, Booster 9Haste 5, Steal 30, Haste 20, Nimble Recovery 20

Maxing all six Bandit skills takes 140 SP, but levels 30โ€“70 only give you 121, so something stays unfinished at 70. The community options: short Booster with full Recovery, or long Booster with weak Recovery. Keep Dagger Mastery, Savage Blow and Haste maxed either way.

AP: LUK, and DEX for your dagger

LUK is the damage stat. On a dagger stab (Double Stab and Savage Blow), each LUK counts double compared with STR or DEX in the damage formula. DEX matters only to equip your dagger and armor, plus a little accuracy.

DEX daggers want DEX equal to their level minus 5. A common community default: +1 DEX and +4 LUK per level through 61, then all LUK, finishing level 70 at 61 base DEX and 301 base LUK, with the last few DEX from gear. A dagger's own stats don't count toward its requirement.

Daggers: DEX line vs STR line

70Kandine65 DEX / 140 LUK88Golden River65 STR / 140 LUK87

*Korean Fan needs neither STR nor DEX, is usable by any class, and swings Faster (3). Community sources report it drops from Lorangs on the Florina Road maps (drop tables aren't in the game data, so unverified). That combination is why an October community market check had it priced well above a Gephart.

  • Crafting: Halfmoon Zamadar is Weaponcrafting 7 (7,500 mesos fee + 4 Iron Ingots, 3 Mithril Ingots, 21 Screws) and Gephart is Weaponcrafting 8 (9,500 fee + 6 Iron Ingots, 2 Mithril Ingots, 24 Screws). There's no Shinkita recipe in the game data, so plan your level 50 DEX dagger early. On the STR line, Sai is craftable at Weaponcrafting 10 (13,500 fee + 5 Bronze Ingots, 5 Gold Ingots, 6 Diamonds, 30 Screws). See the crafting guide.
  • Speed: DEX daggers are Fast (4), STR daggers Faster (3) in the game data (community guides often call 3 "Very Fast"). Dagger Booster takes two stages off, and in Classic World the speed doesn't stop at 2, so a boosted STR dagger really runs at speed 1. Multiple community sources confirm this.

Should you go STR daggers?

The sources don't agree, so here are all three views:

  • One community guide: DEX daggers beat STR daggers by 6โ€“8%. Its numbers are max damage per cast, which doesn't count attack speed.
  • A community DPS model: at level 70, Golden River gets 90 Savage Blows a minute against Kandine's 83. After paying 65 STR for it, Golden River ends up only about 1.3% ahead. That model no longer recommends one line over the other.
  • A community cost comparison (level 45 math, October 2026 prices): a Bazlud at 45 is the strongest damage for the money if you accept the STR.

The catch everyone agrees on: Thief armor still needs DEX, so an STR-dagger Bandit ends up raising STR on top of DEX, and every point comes out of LUK. If you want a simple build, go DEX daggers. If you want to min-max attack speed and you've planned your AP, STR is viable.

Gear and shields

  • Shield: daggers are one-handed, so you can wear a shield. A shield's Guard can fully block some physical hits, and Jurgen Wristguard's +1 DEX helps you reach dagger requirements. Community builds commonly include a Jurgen Wristguard.
  • Gloves: scroll for Attack, not Crit Rate. One community calculation has a level 70 Bandit getting about 4.01% more expected damage from five Lesser Attack scrolls than five Lesser Crit scrolls.
  • Overall: tops and bottoms can't take LUK scrolls, so a 10-slot overall is the best LUK base. Dark Avenger at 35 starts with +6 LUK and 10 slots; it's female-only in the game data, which is a real edge for female Bandits. Males use a scrolled Blue Sauna Robe (male-only) or a top and bottom.
  • Scroll tiers: Lesser 100%, Intermediate 60%.

Playstyle

You fight up close, take touch damage and use more pots than an Assassin. A good community loop: keep Haste and Booster up, Steal a fresh mob when the Attack Power buff drops, finish with Savage Blow, and use Double Stab instead when it kills just as reliably for less MP. Savage Blow locks you in place for the whole animation, so position first. Map picks by level are on Bandit training spots.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Highest single-target damage at level 70: community sources all put the Bandit first.
  • Steal stuns and buffs your damage; Haste helps the party.
  • Shield slot and Guard.
  • Can level easily as a Sindit.

Cons

  • Very short reach, lots of face-tanking.
  • Max Savage Blow costs 28 MP per cast; community math rates it less MP-efficient than Double Stab.
  • Steal is the only multi-target hit, and it caps at 2 mobs.
  • Planning daggers late can waste AP on STR or DEX.

At level 70

Chief Bandit is the 3rd job, and it isn't in Classic World yet. Nexon has said 3rd job may come later but hasn't given a date, and the launch level cap is 100. Finish your 2nd-job build and keep grinding.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Sindit in MapleStory Classic?
A Bandit who levels with Lucky Seven and a claw like an Assassin, then switches to daggers around level 40, usually with an SP Reset Scroll. It's the easier way to level a Bandit.
When should a Sindit use the SP reset?
Around level 40, when you can equip a level 40 dagger like Gephart. Community testing found the first clean breakpoint at 36, but 40 is the practical point. Don't reset at 30.
Should I max Savage Blow or Dagger Mastery first?
Dagger Mastery. Community plans get Mastery up early because it raises your minimum hit. Savage Blow is maxed by 47 in both plans.
Are STR daggers worth it for Bandits?
Sources disagree. One says DEX daggers win by 6โ€“8% per cast; another says STR daggers end up about even once attack speed is counted. Armor still needs DEX, so STR costs you LUK.
How much DEX does a Bandit need?
For DEX daggers, the dagger's level minus 5 (65 for Kandine at 70). Gear DEX counts, so base DEX can be lower.
Does the SP Reset Scroll reset first job skills?
Yes. It resets every skill except Beginner skills, so you can move first-job SP from Lucky Seven and Keen Eyes into Double Stab and Dark Sight.
