Meso Sinks in MapleStory Classic World: What Costs Mesos and How to Save
In Classic World your mesos go to five places: potions, ammo (stars and arrows), scrolls, crafting fees and housing, with smaller leaks from travel, storage and citizenship changes. Potions are the steady drain for every class; scrolls, crafting stations and house furniture are the big one-off hits. Most of the money you'll ever "make" early is money you didn't spend.
Quick answer: Buy the cheapest recovery per meso (Red Potion, Meat, Lemon), recharge stars instead of rebuying them, get citizenship at Lv. 12 for 5 to 25% off eligible shop items and cabs, don't switch citizenship towns casually (one source says 100,000 mesos per switch), and treat 100,000 to 300,000-meso crafting furniture as a luxury.
This page is about spending. For earning, see how to make mesos and the class pages: Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief.
Potions: the drain that never stops
Town grocer prices, from community shop data that two sources agree on:
| Item | Price | Restores |
|---|---|---|
| Red Potion | 50 | 100 HP |
| Meat | 80 | 160 HP |
| Orange Potion | 150 | 250 HP |
| White Potion | 350 | 500 HP |
| Lemon | 150 | 150 MP |
| Blue Potion | 220 | 200 MP |
| Pure Water (Sleepywood) | 1,120 | 800 MP |
| Buff potions (Warrior, Magic, Sniper and others) | 500 | 10-minute buff |
Red Potion and Meat give 2 HP per meso, and nothing in town beats them. Lemon gives 1 MP per meso; Blue Potion is worse at about 0.91. The bigger potions cost more per point, so you pay for convenience.
Free potions to grab: The Journey Begins event (Lv. 10+, until November 18, 2026) gives 30 Red and 30 Blue Potions on Day 1 and 20 Blue Potions on Days 3 and 9, per Nexon. Nexon's October 21 maintenance also raised the potion drop rate for monsters between Lv. 10 and 30.
Ammo: stars and arrows
| Ammo | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Arrows for Bows / Crossbows | 1 each at town grocers | Stack of 1,000 |
| Subi Throwing Stars | 500 a set | Recharge 0.3 per star, about 150 to refill a stack |
| Wolbi Throwing Stars | 1,000 a set | Max in Kerning City, Helpful Stranger citizenship |
Recharge stars at the shop that sells them instead of buying new sets. Warriors and Magicians skip this sink entirely.
Travel and convenience
- Boat off Maple Island: a community beginner guide lists Shanks charging 300 mesos to sail to Lith Harbor from Lv. 7.
- Cabs: the same guide says taxis are 90% off while you're still a Beginner, so ride to your job town before you advance. Citizens get a cab discount too, per Nexon.
- Return scrolls: 400 mesos for Nearest Town, 500 for a named town.
- Quest fees: some quests charge to start. Nella's job board in Kerning City takes a 1,000-meso commission up front; the quest text of Don Hwang's Request, her first job, says so.
Scrolls
Scrolls are the biggest single purchases most players make before housing.
| Where | What | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Flint (Henesys Town Hall) | Lesser armor scrolls by citizenship grade | 20,000 to 40,000 |
| Ben (Kerning City Civic Center) | Lesser scrolls by citizenship grade | 40,000 for the Overall LUK scroll |
| El Moth (The Tree That Grew III, near Ellinia) | Lesser wand and staff magic-attack scrolls | 60,000 per one community list, 25,000 per another |
| Arcforge crafting | 24 Lesser scrolls | 10,000 or 20,000 fee per craft, plus gems and parchment |
The town scroll-shop prices come from one community database; treat them as a guide and check in game. More on scroll crafting in the Arcforge guide.
Crafting fees and furniture
Every craft charges a fee, and the furniture recipes charge a lot. From the game data, with "full cost" = fee plus every ingot, Processed Wood/Leather/Cloth and Screw at what it costs to make (ingot 200, Gold Ingot 600, Processed material 150, Screw 40) and raw drops at NPC price:
| Recipe | Profession (level) | Fee | Full cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anvil | Smithing (3) | 100,000 | 105,550 |
| Weaponcrafting Station | Weaponcrafting (3) | 100,000 | 105,550 |
| Sewing Machine | Tailoring (3) | 100,000 | 105,050 |
| Woodworking Station | Woodcrafting (3) | 100,000 | 105,800 |
| Leatherworking Station | Leatherworking (3) | 100,000 | 105,300 |
| Arcane Station | Arcforge (3) | 100,000 | 107,300 |
| Reinforced Safe | Smithing (6) | 300,000 | 305,150 |
| Reinforced Wooden Chest | Woodcrafting (6) | 300,000 | 305,400 |
They're pure sinks: each sells back to NPCs for 100 mesos. Equipment fees are smaller but add up; see each profession guide for the full fee table.
Housing and citizenship
- Buying a house: per Nexon, citizens of Visitor grade or higher buy a home with mesos from the Housing Registrar (Bianca in Henesys, Scarlett in Kerning City). We haven't found a sourced house price: a community database says housing details are still being confirmed. See the citizenship and housing guide.
- Town furniture shops: one community database lists most basic furniture at 500 mesos, the Henesys Table at 100,000, the Straw Training Dummy at 300,000, the town Resident's Chair at 500,000 (Distinguished Citizen) and the Portrait of Helena at 1,000,000. An older closed-test guide listed the Resident's Chair at 10,000 from Visitor grade, so prices may have changed; check in game.
- Switching citizenship: sources disagree. One community database says every switch costs 100,000 mesos. A closed-test guide recorded the first change as free and one reactivation at 50,000.
- Storage: one community database lists storage starting at 100 mesos per item, with a citizenship discount from 5% up to 50% at the top grade.
How to save
- Become a citizen at Lv. 12. Discounts on eligible shop items, cabs and services scale from 5% to 25% by grade, and storage from 5% to 50%, per two community sources.
- Buy recovery per meso, not per click. Red Potion, Meat and Lemon.
- Recharge, don't rebuy, stars.
- Craft your own gear when the fee is below the shop price. The class pages above have craft-versus-buy tables.
- Don't vendor what players want. Player prices for crafting materials, scrolls and stars often run far above NPC prices.
- Never buy mesos. We don't support it, and trading is locked until 24 hours after a character on your account hits Lv. 15 anyway.
