How to Make Mesos in MapleStory Classic World: Early, Mid and Late Game
Early mesos in Classic World come from quest rewards and from vendoring the equipment that drops while you level. In the mid game you add a few big one-time payouts (Shumi's 10,000-meso sack, Riel's Florina Beach chain), the repeatable Arwen quest, and selling to other players. Later, a small set of crafts actually beats NPC prices. Nobody has published reliable mesos-per-hour numbers yet, so be wary of any "best meso map" claim.
Quick answer: Do the quests that pay mesos, keep potion costs at 2 HP per meso or better, vendor spare weapon drops, run Arwen's repeatable Glass Shoe quest from level 29, and save the jump-quest and Florina Beach payouts for 35 to 37. Check what a material is used for before you sell it. Never buy mesos.
First: the trade lock
Per Nexon's Grand Launch notes, new accounts start with a trade restriction. All trading features open 24 hours after a character on the account reaches Lv. 15. Until then you're earning mesos from NPCs and quests only, so plan your early game around that.
Why there's no mesos-per-hour table
The game client reportedly stores no drop data, so meso drops and drop rates have to be reported by players, and too few reports exist so far to rank hunting spots by income. Other community sources say the same: there's no reliable "best meso map" on the live servers yet. Any guide quoting hourly meso rates right now is guessing.
What is known exactly: quest rewards and NPC sell prices. Across the quests live on Maple Island and Victoria Island, 218 one-time quests pay mesos, worth 201,745 mesos in total if you ran every one. Add the daily and weekly citizenship and crafting quests and the one repeatable (Arwen's Glass Shoe) and it's 278 quests listing 240,753 mesos, but the dailies and weeklies rotate: the game offers one quest per day or week from each pool, so you'll only ever see a slice of those. That's a one-time pot, not an income, which is why a new character rarely feels broke and a level 50 one often does. A community check of the shop lists found nothing you can buy from one NPC and sell to another for profit, so the only things worth vendoring are things you didn't pay for.
Early game (levels 10 to 30)
Quests that pay mesos (and something better)
These are fixed payouts. Several also hand out gear or scrolls worth more than the mesos.
| Quest | Lv | Mesos | Also gives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixing Blackbull's House | 11 | 380 | Wooden Buckler (90%) or Steel Shield (10%) |
| Pia and the Blue Mushroom | 16 | 497 | Random Hat Accuracy Scroll (Lesser, Intermediate or Greater) |
| Mother's Gold Watch | 18 | 585 | Weighted Earrings or Yellow Square |
| Luke the Security Guy | 19 | 614 | One random refined gem |
| Jane and the Mushroom | 20 | 658 | Random Intermediate weapon attack scroll |
| Proof of Companionship (KPQ) | 21 | 687 | Random Intermediate earring stat scroll, +1 fame |
| Dr. Faymus's Request | 22 | 716 | 30 White Potions |
| Cutthroat Manny's Request | 22 | 716 | Shoes for your class |
| Stranger's Identity | 23 | 745 | Old Raggedy Cape |
| Camila's Gem | 24 | 775 | 30 Cake (70%) or Pig Illustrated (30%) |
| Arwen and the Glass Shoe | 29 | 921 | Piece of Ice or Fairy Wing (repeatable) |
| Maya's First / Second Collection | 30 | 965 each | 30 Orange Potions / 30 Blue Potions |
The full list, with what's worth your time, is in quests worth doing.
Spend less on potions
Saving mesos is making mesos. Sources agree that Red Potions and Meat both restore 2 HP per meso, and that Lemons restore 1 MP per meso. The shop prices: Red Potion 50 mesos for 100 HP, Meat 80 mesos for 160 HP, Lemon 150 mesos for 150 MP, and Blue Potion 220 mesos for 200 MP. Blue Potions are the worst MP value on that list, so Lemons are the budget pick.
Two more free savings, both from Nexon:
- The Journey Begins event (Lv. 10+, until November 18, 2026 11:59 PM UTC) hands out 30 Red Potions and 30 Blue Potions on Day 1, then 20 Blue Potions on Day 3 and again on Day 9. You trade 30 Maple Leaves to the Maple Administrator for each daily reward.
- Citizenship (Lv. 12+) in Henesys or Kerning City gives discounts on cabs, storage and some general store items. See the Citizenship and housing guide.
Vendor the weapon drops you don't need
Spare equipment is the easiest early cash. Sources agree on these NPC sell prices:
| Drop | NPC sell price |
|---|---|
| Long Sword | 1,500 mesos |
| Double Axe | 1,500 mesos |
| Wooden Staff | 1,500 mesos |
| Wooden Sword | 2,500 mesos |
| Metal Axe | 2,500 mesos |
Community drop data lists Orange Mushrooms as dropping the Long Sword and Double Axe, Stumps the Wooden Staff, Red Snails the Wooden Sword and Slimes the Metal Axe. Keep one upgrade you can use and sell the duplicates.
What not to vendor on reflex: ores, leather, leaves, branches and other ETC drops. Many are crafting inputs or quest hand-ins (Maya's First Collection alone wants 20 each of four mushroom caps). Check before you clear your bag.
Mid game (levels 30 to 50)
Arwen's Glass Shoe: the repeatable one
Arwen and the Glass Shoe (Lv. 29, Arwen the Fairy in Ellinia) is repeatable. Each Arwen's Glass Shoe you hand in pays 921 mesos and 4,430 EXP, plus a 50/50 roll for a Piece of Ice or a Fairy Wing. Fire Boars drop the shoe (two community sources list it), and Fire Boars are a natural level 30 to 35 training mob anyway. If you're grinding The Burnt Land, every shoe is bonus income. Hang on to one Piece of Ice: Manji's Old Gladius chain at level 50 asks for it.
Big one-time payouts
| Quest or chain | Lv | Mesos |
|---|---|---|
| Shumi's Lost Coin / Roll of Cash / Sack of Cash (Kerning subway jump quests) | 35 | 1,111 / 1,111 / 10,000 |
| Special Taste of Florina Beach I / II / III / IV (Riel) | 37 | 1,170 / 3,510 / 7,020 / 3,510 |
| Rowen the Fairy's Cursed Doll chain, each step | 36 | 1,140 |
That's 12,222 mesos for Shumi's three runs and 15,210 for Riel's four quests. Shumi's last run also gives 30 Mana Elixirs. Rowen's chain pays out in ores: the 50-doll step gives 7 of a random metal ore, the 70-doll step 10 of a random gem ore, and the 100-doll step 5 Gold Ore or 5 Diamond Ore. Those feed crafting or sell to crafters. The jump quests are covered in the jump quests guide.
Sell to players, not just NPCs
Community sources warn that player prices often run far above NPC sell-back, sometimes by an order of magnitude. Scrolls, crafting catalysts, ores, refined materials and good equipment are the categories to price-check before vendoring.
Free Market basics:
- The entrance is reached through Henesys or Perion. Lewis there gives "Welcome to the Free Market!" at Lv. 13 (424 EXP, 306 mesos), a handy first visit.
- Your account must be past the trade lock above.
- The Journey Begins gives a Regular Store Permit on Day 4 and again on Day 12 (untradable, 7 days each), plus Megaphones on Days 6 and 13 and Item Megaphones on Day 14. That's a free week of shop time twice.
- Look at several listings before you price anything. For the details, read our trading and Free Market guide.
Crafting for profit
Most crafting loses mesos against NPC prices. The trap in most "profitable recipe" lists is that they value ingots, Screws and Processed Wood at their own tiny NPC sell price (100, 1 and 10). You paid a fee and raw drops to make those, so we count them at full cost: Bronze or Iron Ingot 200 (5 ore at 20 + 100 fee), Screw 40 each (2 ingots make 10), Processed Wood 150 (10 Tree Branch at 5 + 100 fee). On that basis, only a few recipes at crafting Lv. 1 to 8 beat the NPC:
| Recipe | Profession level (char. level) | Fee | Inputs (full cost) | Sells for | Net vs. NPC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black Crystal | Arcforge 6 (30) | 1,200 | 1 Black Crystal Ore (500) | 2,500 | +800 |
| Iron Arrows for Bows or Crossbows (500) | Woodcrafting 7 (35) | none | 1 Processed Wood + 1 Iron Ingot + 1 Stiff Feather (360) | 1,000 | +640 |
| Bronze Arrows for Bows or Crossbows (500) | Woodcrafting 4 (20) | none | 1 Processed Wood + 1 Bronze Ingot + 1 Stiff Feather (360) | 500 | +140 |
| Hardwood Wand | Woodcrafting 3 (15) | 1,500 | 5 Processed Wood + 30 Orange Mushroom Cap (990) | 2,500 | +10 (break-even) |
| Iron Knuckle (often listed as profitable) | Smithing 8 (40) | 6,000 | 8 Iron Ingot + 24 Screw (2,560) | 8,400 | -160 |
They're only "profit" if you farmed the raw drops and made the intermediates yourself, and the arrows need Smithing for the ingot. Buy the inputs from players and the math changes. Recipe unlocks, crafting EXP and leveling are in the crafting professions guide.
Late game (levels 50 and up)
- Citizenship quests at Lv. 57 pay 1,784 mesos each (for example A Box Hidden Long Ago and A Craftsman's Touch).
- John's Deep Forest of Patience (Lv. 65) pays 2,032 mesos per run across three runs, and the last one gives Pink-Flowered Earrings. Their NPC price is listed at 22,500 mesos, but they're a Lv. 60 earring with +5% crit damage, so think twice before vendoring them.
- Bosses aren't a dependable income. Drop rates haven't been published, so treat boss drops as a bonus. See bosses in Classic World.
Event extras you can sell or use
- Scroll of Secrets → Magic Box. Win a GM event and you get a Scroll of Secrets. Per Nexon, the next ones are a coconut-harvest team game on November 6 and a portal climb on December 19, both entered through Paul at Lith Harbor. Chun Ji at Kerning City Construction Site turns it into a Magic Box, and Mr. Pickall in Kerning City opens it for one random prize: ores, potions, or Intermediate and Greater scrolls among them.
- Halloween (October 28 to November 18). Orange Slimes in Henesys, Ellinia, Kerning City and Perion can drop Red, Blue and Green Malady's Candy, which Nexon lists as tradable and permanent.
Don't buy mesos
We don't link meso sellers, account sellers or bots, and we won't. Everything on this page is in-game.
