Throwing Stars and Arrows in MapleStory Classic World: W.ATK, Prices, Recharging
In Classic World the only throwing stars you can buy from an NPC are Subi Throwing Stars (+15 W.ATK, 500 mesos) at any town grocer and Wolbi Throwing Stars (+17 W.ATK, 1,000 mesos) from Max in Kerning City, which needs Kerning City citizenship. Everything above Wolbi, from Mokbi to Ilbi and Hwabi, has no recorded shop. Bowmen have it easier: plain arrows cost 1 meso each at every grocer. (Star and arrow stats come from the launch item data; shop stock and prices are community-reported, since shop inventories aren't in the game data.)
Quick answer: Assassins: use Subis from level 10, sign up as a Kerning City citizen at 12 and grind to Helpful Stranger for Wolbis. Recharge stars at the NPC that sells them instead of buying new ones. Bowmen: buy plain arrows (1 meso) by the thousand; Henesys citizens unlock Bronze Arrows (+1 W.ATK, 2 mesos) at Helpful Stranger.
Throwing stars: every type in Classic
All stars need level 10 and have no stat requirement. W.ATK, recharge cost and stack size below are from the launch item data; the "How to get it" column is community-reported.
| Star | W.ATK | Recharge per star | Max stack | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Subi Throwing Stars | +15 | 0.3 mesos | 500 | Every town grocer, 500 mesos |
| Wolbi Throwing Stars | +17 | 0.4 mesos | 500 | Max (Kerning City Civic Center), 1,000 mesos, Helpful Stranger grade or higher |
| Mokbi Throwing Stars | +19 | 0.5 mesos | 700 | No shop recorded |
| Kumbi Throwing Stars | +21 | 0.6 mesos | 700 | No shop recorded |
| Tobi Throwing Stars | +23 | 0.7 mesos | 1,000 | No shop recorded |
| Steely Throwing Knives | +25 | 0.8 mesos | 1,000 | No shop recorded |
| Ilbi Throwing Stars | +27 | 0.9 mesos | 800 | No shop recorded |
| Hwabi Throwing Stars | +29 | 1 meso | 800 | No shop recorded |
"No shop recorded" means neither source lists an NPC that sells it. Neither source has confirmed Classic World drop sources for these stars yet either. One community database shows old MapleSEA drop tables as a hint, but labels them historical reference, so we don't repeat them here. If you want Tobis or better, expect to farm or trade for them in the Free Market. Its own notes say plainly that Tobis and Steelys aren't a realistic early purchase.
Where to buy Subis
Subis are sold for 500 mesos by the grocer in every Victoria Island town plus the two Sleepywood shops:
- Lith Harbor: Mina
- Henesys: Luna
- Ellinia: Len the Fairy
- Perion: Arturo
- Kerning City: Dr. Faymus (Kerning City Pharmacy)
- Sleepywood: Mr. Sweatbottom (Regular Sauna) and the 24 Hr Mobile Store in Ant Tunnel Park
Florina Beach's grocer Valen sells them too, reportedly.
Wolbis and Kerning City citizenship
Wolbis are the one upgrade you can buy. Max, the City General Store in Kerning City Civic Center, sells them for 1,000 mesos once your Kerning City citizenship reaches Helpful Stranger (grade 3). That grade needs character level 22.
How much contribution Helpful Stranger takes isn't settled: sources disagree (3,500, or 2,000 in a COT2-based guide). One source also notes that Max's stock and prices were last read in the second closed test, so check the price in game. Sign up with Roxy in Kerning City Civic Center at level 12 so the contribution starts building early. Full details are in the citizenship guide.
Recharging stars
Stars run out as you throw them, and the item description says they "need to be recharged" once empty; the data gives each star a per-star recharge price. Players report you recharge at an NPC that sells stars instead of buying a new set. Rough refill costs from the table above (our math, recharge cost × max stack):
| Star | Full stack | Cost to refill a full stack |
|---|---|---|
| Subi | 500 | 150 mesos |
| Wolbi | 500 | 200 mesos |
| Ilbi | 800 | 720 mesos |
That's why recharging beats rebuying: a fresh set of Subis is 500 mesos, a full refill is 150. Lucky Seven throws two stars per cast (its skill description says so), so budget for refills the way you budget for pots.
Arrows for Bowmen (and crossbow bolts)
Bows fire "Arrows for Bows", crossbows fire "Arrows for Crossbows" (some sources call them bolts). You can't fire one from the other, and claws can't use either. A Woodcrafter can convert them, though: 10 of one type become 5 of the other at Woodcrafting 1, no fee.
| Arrow | W.ATK | Max stack | Where to get it | Price each |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arrows for Bows / Crossbows | +0 | 1,000 | Every town grocer and the Sleepywood sauna | 1 meso |
| Same, at Ant Tunnel Park 24 Hr Mobile Store | +0 | 1,000 | Sleepywood dungeon | 2 mesos |
| Bronze Arrows for Bows / Crossbows | +1 | 800 | Raymond, Henesys Town Hall, Helpful Stranger grade or higher | 2 mesos |
| Iron Arrows (bow or crossbow) | +2 | 800 | No shop recorded; Woodcrafting 7 craft (500 per craft) | — |
| Adamantium Arrows for Bows / Mithril Arrows for Crossbows | +3 | 800 | No shop recorded; Woodcrafting 10 craft, above the reported launch cap of 8 | — |
All W.ATK and stack values in this table are from the launch item data.
Arrow costs in practice: at 1 meso each, a full stack of 1,000 plain arrows costs 1,000 mesos. Bronze Arrows double that for +1 W.ATK. In the skill data Arrow Blow uses one arrow per cast and Double Shot uses two, which is one reason community Bowman guides max Arrow Blow. Carry several stacks so you don't run dry mid-grind.
Crafting arrows: a Woodcrafter can make 500 plain arrows from 1 Processed Wood and 1 Stiff Feather at Woodcrafting level 1, Bronze arrows at Woodcrafting level 4 with a Bronze Ingot added, and Iron arrows at level 7 with an Iron Ingot instead. None of these has a fee. At full cost (Processed Wood 150, ingot 200, Stiff Feather at its 10-meso sell price) that's 160 mesos per 500 plain arrows and 360 per 500 Bronze or Iron arrows, well under the shop price of plain and Bronze arrows. See the crafting guide.
Stars vs arrows: what to buy first
- Assassin-track Thief: your damage is claw W.ATK plus star W.ATK, so a better star is a straight damage upgrade. On a budget, Subis until Helpful Stranger, then Wolbis.
- Bowman: plain arrows are effectively free. Spend your mesos on the bow first; a weapon upgrade from Karl in Henesys does far more than +1 from Bronze Arrows.
