Potions and Consumables in MapleStory Classic World: Prices, Where to Buy, Best Value by Level
Every town grocer on Victoria Island sells the same four basic pots: Red Potion (50 mesos, 100 HP), Orange Potion (150 mesos, 250 HP), White Potion (350 mesos, 500 HP) and Blue Potion (220 mesos, 200 MP). The cheapest HP per meso in the game is the small stuff: Red Potions, Apples, Eggs and Meat all heal 2 HP per meso. Bigger pots cost more per HP point, and you pay that for fewer key presses and fewer bag slots.
Quick answer: Early on, buy Red Potions or Meat for HP and Oranges or Lemons for MP. Move up to White Potions when one Red no longer dents your HP bar in a fight. Buff pots (Warrior, Magic, Sniper, Dexterity, Speed) cost 500 mesos in grocers. Citizens of Henesys or Kerning City get a discount on tagged items like buff pots in their own town.
Basic potions and food: prices and what they heal
Restore values below are from the game data. Shop buy prices aren't in the game data; they match across two independent community NPC shop listings, at the grocers in Lith Harbor (Mina), Henesys (Luna), Ellinia (Len the Fairy), Perion (Arturo) and Kerning City (Dr. Faymus). Mr. Sweatbottom in the Sleepywood sauna sells the four basic potions at the same prices.
| Item | Restores | Shop price | HP or MP per meso |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple | 40 HP | 20 | 2.0 |
| Egg | 60 HP | 30 | 2.0 |
| Red Potion | 100 HP | 50 | 2.0 |
| Meat | 160 HP | 80 | 2.0 |
| Orange Potion | 250 HP | 150 | 1.67 |
| White Potion | 500 HP | 350 | 1.43 |
| Orange | 50 MP | 50 | 1.0 |
| Lemon | 150 MP | 150 | 1.0 |
| Blue Potion | 200 MP | 220 | 0.91 |
The per-meso column is restore divided by price. A community consumables guide ranks them the same way, and another source's potion table puts the same five cheap HP items in a tie at the top. MP is simply worse value than HP: the best MP item gives about half the restore per meso of the best HP item.
One thing to know: one community potion overview lists a lower "Price" column (Red Potion at 5). That figure is the NPC sell price (the game data has Red Potion selling for 5), not the shop price. The ranking still holds because the ratios are the same.
Which pot to use at your level
There's no official breakpoint, so this is a rule of thumb, not a game mechanic.
- Levels 10–20: Red Potions or Meat for HP, Oranges for MP. Cheapest per point and your HP pool is small.
- Around levels 25–35: One community guide suggests switching to White Potions once your max HP passes roughly 600–800, because tapping Reds three or four times mid-fight gets you killed. The mesos you lose per HP buy you reaction time.
- Long sessions away from town: bigger pots pack more healing per inventory slot. If the walk back to town is long, carrying Whites is often cheaper in practice.
- Magicians: Lemons give the same MP per meso as Oranges with a third of the key presses. Blue Potions are the convenience pick.
A simple way to budget: count how many pots you burn in 15 minutes at your spot, multiply by 4 for an hourly rate, then add a buffer. That's a common community method and it works.
Bigger recovery items
| Item | Restores | Price | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Water | 800 MP | 1,120 | 24 Hr Mobile Store (Ant Tunnel Park), Mr. Sweatbottom (Sleepywood) |
| Elixir | 35% HP and 35% MP | 3,000 | Raymond (Henesys) and Max (Kerning City), Citizen of Honor only (community-reported) |
Elixirs have a 30-second cooldown in the item data, and so do Mana Elixir (50% MP) and Power Elixir (100% HP and MP); community sources report the cooldown is shared between them. Reportedly, the citizen shops' Elixir stock is 100 per user and does not refill. For quest sources, see how to get Elixirs.
Sources disagree on Unagi (1,000 HP). Reported values differ: one source lists it at 1,000 mesos at Mr. Sweatbottom in Sleepywood, another lists 1,800 there. Both agree it's 1,000 at the 24 Hr Mobile Store and at the Henesys and Kerning City citizen shops (Town Patron grade). Check the price on screen before you bulk buy.
Buff potions
| Potion | Effect | Duration | Shop price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior Potion | +10 weapon attack | 10 min | 500 |
| Magic Potion | +10 magic attack | 10 min | 500 |
| Sniper Potion | +5 accuracy | 10 min | 500 |
| Dexterity Potion | +5 avoidability | 10 min | 500 |
| Speed Potion | +8 speed | 10 min | 500 |
Magic Potion is sold by Len the Fairy in Ellinia. Speed Potion is in almost every grocer. Which grocer stocks Warrior, Sniper and Dexterity Potions isn't consistent between our two sources, so check your local shop.
The citizen shops add 15-minute versions: Supreme Sniper Potion (+7 accuracy) from Raymond in Henesys and Supreme Dexterity Potion (+7 avoidability) from Max in Kerning City, both 600 mesos.
Citizenship discounts on pots
Nexon's Grand Launch notes say official residents of Henesys and Kerning City (from level 12) get a discount on "some general store items." In practice:
- One source shows the Warrior, Dexterity and Speed Potions at 475 instead of 500 "for residents" in the Henesys and Kerning City grocers. That's 5% off.
- Another says the discount only applies to tagged items (buff potions, pet food, return scrolls and the town cab), scales with your citizenship grade, and only works in your active town.
The per-grade discount schedule is in our citizenship guide. Basic Red, Orange, White and Blue Potions aren't on the tagged list in that description, so don't expect a discount on them.
Ways to spend less on pots
- Use quest rewards. Early quests pay out pots. Olaf's First Training in Lith Harbor gives 8 Red Potions and 8 Blue Potions, for example.
- Don't buy pots you'll get for free. Monsters drop pots too. Drop tables aren't in the game data; community drop tables list Octopus, Pig, Slime and the mushrooms among Red Potion droppers (unverified for Classic).
- Pick a spot near a shop. Refill time is real time. A small EXP lead disappears if every refill needs a long walk.
If your pot bill is outrunning your income, our Free Market guide covers selling your drops.
