Pets in MapleStory Classic World: How to Get a Pet, Pet Food and the Free Snail
There are two ways to get a pet in Classic World right now: claim the free Snail pet from the launch check-in event The Journey Begins (day 1 reward, level 10+, until November 18), or buy one of six Cash Shop pets for 3,500 NX each (30-day lifespan). Keep it fed with Pet Food, which restores 30 Fullness and is sold in town general stores and by Doofus in Henesys Market.
Fastest free pet: reach level 10 → talk to the Maple Administrator in Henesys or Kerning City → accept [Event] The Journey Begins → bring 30 Maple Leaves (from monsters level 10+) → day 1 reward is a Snail pet plus 30 Pet Food. The Snail expires November 18 and can't be revived.
The free Snail pet (The Journey Begins)
Nexon's Grand Launch check-in event runs October 21 to November 18, 2026. Once per day per account you trade 30 Maple Leaves to the Maple Administrator for that day's reward, and rewards go by how many times you've checked in, not by calendar day. Your first check-in gives:
| Day 1 reward | Details |
|---|---|
| Snail (Pet) | Untradable, expires November 18, 2026 11:59 PM UTC, cannot be revived |
| Pet Food x30 | Tradable within world, 30-day duration |
| Red Potion x30, Blue Potion x30 | Tradable within world, permanent |
The Snail is a strange little pet: its item text says its skills disappear once its magic runs out, and one community database lists it with built-in Auto HP and Auto MP. Neither detail is confirmed by Nexon, so test it yourself. Either way, it's free looting help for your first month. Event details: launch events.
Cash Shop pets
Six pets are on sale in the Classic World Cash Shop at launch, each 3,500 NX for 30 days:
Brown Kitty · Brown Puppy · Pink Bunny · Black Kitty · White Bunny · Black Pig
When the 30 days run out, a pet turns into a doll. Water of Life (2,000 NX) adds 30 days, or you bring it to Mar the Fairy in Ellinia (Marr's Forest) to restore a pet that has already become a doll.
Temperaments differ: community records describe the Black Pig as always hungry and the kitties as rarely hungry, so a Black Pig eats through more Pet Food.
Pet skills are what make pets worth it
A pet on its own just follows you around. The Cash Shop skills are the real value:
| Item | What it does | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Auto HP Potion Skill | Pet drinks your HP potions below the threshold you set | 2,500 NX |
| Auto MP Potion Skill | Same for MP | 2,500 NX |
| Auto Move Skill | Pet picks up nearby items and mesos without you walking over them | 3,000 NX |
| Expanded Auto Move Skill | Triples Auto Move range (needs Auto Move first) | 3,000 NX |
| Pet Name Tag | Names your pet; it responds better if you say its name first ("Lucky, sit!") | 1,800 NX |
The Pet Booster Essentials Pack (9,900 NX, once per account) bundles all four skills plus a coupon for 30 Premium Pet Food.
Community testers say the auto-potion threshold is the HP and MP warning setting in System Options. Nexon fixed a launch bug where Auto Move pets kept trying to grab items on other platforms, and an October 15 bug where pets wouldn't pick up stackable Etc items when your inventory was full.
Feeding your pet
Pet Food restores 30 Fullness. The game data says it's sold "at the General Stores in towns or from the Pet Food Merchants in some towns."
- Doofus is the Pet Food Merchant in Henesys Market (he also stands on Pet-Walking Road). Community shop records list his Pet Food at 30 mesos.
- The same records list it at around 35 mesos in town general stores. Shop prices aren't in the game data; Pet Food sells back to NPCs for 15 mesos.
- Kerning City citizens get the town discount on Pet Food at Dr. Faymus's pharmacy.
Feed before Fullness runs low. A hungry pet eventually goes home, and community formulas (unconfirmed for Classic) say feeding a pet that's already full costs closeness.
Pet equipment and scrolls
Pets have their own hat slot. The Cash Shop sells eight pet hats and ribbons at 3,200 NX each (permanent) for the six launch pets. Pet gear can be scrolled with Pet Equip Speed and Pet Equip Jump scrolls, which follow the normal four tiers in the game data: Lesser (100%, +1), Intermediate (60%, +2), Greater (10%, +3) and Chaos (10%, +4, 50% chance to destroy on failure).
Free pet scrolls: the first story arc of both Henesys and Kerning City citizenship ends with one random Pet Equip Speed or Jump scroll (Intermediate or Greater).
Pet NPCs
| NPC | Where |
|---|---|
| Cloy | Henesys Park (listed as Pet Master) |
| Trainer Bartos, Trainer Frod | Pet-Walking Road, off Henesys Park |
| Doofus | Henesys Market and Pet-Walking Road |
| Mar the Fairy | Marr's Forest, Ellinia |
Mar the Fairy also handles the Pet Ability Transfer Scroll, which moves a pet's level and closeness to another pet.
