Yes. MapleStory Classic World is free to play. Grand Launch opened it to everyone on October 21, 2026, and all you need is a Nexon account and the Nexon Launcher or Steam. The only things that ever cost money were the optional Founder's Packages (early access plus cosmetics) and the Cash Shop.

Quick answer: free to download, free to play, no beta key. Founder's Packages were optional, cosmetic only, and sales closed on October 14. The Cash Shop sells cosmetics and convenience items for NX, the same NX you use in regular MapleStory.

What you get for free

Everything that makes it Classic. Nexon's Grand Launch notes list Maple Island and Victoria Island, all four classes up to 2nd job, a level cap of 100, the Kerning City Party Quest, six field bosses, crafting, citizenship and housing. None of it sits behind a paywall. Full rundown: what's in Classic World at launch.

It runs on Windows and macOS, through the Nexon Launcher or Steam. Setup steps are in our download guide.

What the Founder's Packages were

Before launch, Nexon sold Founder's Packages. The Zakum and Orange Mushroom packages gave Founder's Access, a two-week head start from October 6. That head start is over. Since October 21 everyone plays on the same footing.

Two things worth knowing:

  • They were cosmetic. Nexon's sale post says the items are "purely cosmetic" and grant no stats or bonuses.
  • Sales are closed. The deadline to buy or upgrade was 11:59 PM PDT on October 14. If you bought one, you can claim it from your in-game mailbox until November 30 at 11:59 PM UTC, after you leave Maple Island.

You also couldn't buy a Founder's Package with NX, per Nexon's FAQ.

What the Cash Shop sells

The Cash Shop is where real money comes in. Nexon's Grand Launch Cash Shop post lists things like:

ItemPriceWhat it does
Mystery Fashion Crate3,500 NXOne random cosmetic outfit piece
AP Reset Scroll7,000 NXResets all your stats
SP Reset Scroll7,000 NXResets all skills except Beginner skills
Safety Charm800 NXStops EXP loss on one death
Regular Store Permit1,500 NXOpens a 12-slot player shop for 90 days

Want to judge for yourself whether that crosses a line? Our pay-to-win page goes through it item by item, with what Inkwell has said about monetization.

NX and Leaf Points

  • NX is shared between MapleStory and Classic World, per Nexon's FAQ. If you have NX left over from regular MapleStory, you can spend it here.
  • Maple Points are not. Maple Points bought in MapleStory stay in MapleStory.
  • Leaf Points are Classic World's second Cash currency, mostly handed out through events. See what Leaf Points are.
  • No MVP. There's currently no MVP status in Classic World.

One catch for brand-new accounts

New accounts start with a trade restriction. Trading opens 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15, per the Grand Launch notes. It's an anti-bot measure, not a paywall, and it doesn't cost anything to clear. Trading basics are in our Free Market guide.
