ThiefLUK · Fast and evasiveHow to Get the Brown Bamboo Hat in MapleStory Classic World
The Brown Bamboo Hat is the reward for Delivering the Weird Medicine, the seventh and last step of Maya's Weird Medicine chain, which starts at level 21 in Henesys. It's the only recorded source. The chain also unlocks Maya's later collections (Green Napoleon) and Manji's Gladius chain, so it's worth doing even if you don't need the hat.
Quick answer: Level 21+. Maya (Henesys) → Teo (Lith Harbor) → Sophia (Perion Department Store) → Manji (Perion): 75 Zombie Mushroom kills + 40 Charm of the Undead → back to Sophia with 30 Squishy Liquid, 30 Leaf, 30 Octopus Leg → Teo → Maya. Reward: Brown Bamboo Hat.
The hat
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Required level | 25 (DEX 10) |
| Class | All |
| W.DEF | +24 |
| Max HP | +10 |
| Accuracy | +1 |
| Upgrade slots | 7 |
| NPC sell price | 1,500 mesos |
Seven slots on a hat is a lot of room for hat scrolls. Like the Old Raggedy Cape, you get it before you can wear it: the chain is level 21, the hat is level 25.
The chain, step by step
| # | Quest | NPC | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maya of Henesys | Maya, Henesys Townstreet | Agree to find Weird Medicine; go see Teo (completes at Teo) |
| 2 | Finding Sophia | Teo, Lith Harbor | Teo wants a Sparkling Rock; go to Sophia |
| 3 | Making a Sparkling Rock | Sophia, Perion Department Store | She needs Arcon's Blood; go to Manji |
| 4 | Arcon's Blood? | Manji, Perion | Kill 75 Zombie Mushroom, bring 40 Charm of the Undead |
| 5 | Getting Arcon's Blood | Manji | Manji hands you the Arcon's Blood. Take it to Sophia with 30 Squishy Liquid, 30 Leaf and 30 Octopus Leg (completes at Sophia) |
| 6 | Making Sparkling Rock | Sophia | Sophia hands you the Sparkling Rock. Take it to Teo |
| 7 | Delivering the Weird Medicine | Teo, then Maya | Teo hands you the Weird Medicine. Give it to Maya: Brown Bamboo Hat |
Steps 4 and 5 also give 20 Blue Potions each, and steps 1, 2 and 6 give 5 Meat each. Step 1 pays 1,309 EXP and 480 mesos, every other step 1,870 EXP and 687 mesos: 12,529 EXP and 4,602 mesos in total, about 51% of a level at 21 (24,402 to level).
Farming notes
- Zombie Mushrooms and Charm of the Undead live in the Ant Tunnel, per the quest text. Zombie Mushroom is Lv. 24 (436 HP); densest maps: Ant Tunnel III (61), Ant Tunnel II (32), Deep Ant Tunnel I (29), Ant Tunnel IV (23), Ant Tunnel Park (23). The Charm's item text says it comes from "an undead monster"; drop rates aren't in the game data. Stranger's Identity (Old Raggedy Cape, level 23) wants another 25 Charms and 50 kills, so farm for both. See how to get the Old Raggedy Cape.
- Squishy Liquid, Leaf and Octopus Leg: drop tables aren't in the game data, and the item descriptions don't name a monster except the obvious one: Octopus Leg comes off an Octopus (Lv. 12; densest at Damp Tree-Forest 19 and Damp Forest 15). For Squishy Liquid and Leaf, drop source not in the game data; check what drops while you train (see where to train from 10 to 30). Leaf and Octopus Leg also feed Nella's Work Gloves chain.
What it unlocks
| Next chain | Level | Reward |

| Maya and Her Peculiar Savior (five quests, needs Henesys Citizenship grade 8) | 47 | 10 Elixirs on the first step; ends with a Gloves Crit. Rate Scroll (Intermediate or Greater) |
