Where to Train From Level 10 to 30 in MapleStory Classic World
You've hit 10, picked your job, and now you're staring at the world map wondering where everyone goes. Levels 10 to 30 are the classic first-job grind: pigs and mushrooms, then the Kerning subway, then the Sleepywood Ant Tunnels. Here's the route, level by level, using Classic World's own monster data, not numbers from old GMS.
Quick answer: Ribbon Pigs, Octopi and Green Mushrooms at 10–14 → Green Mushrooms in the tree dungeons or Bubblings in the subway at 15–19 → Stirges in the Kerning subway (Transfer Area) at 20 → Jr. Neckis in Damp Forest or the Ant Tunnels from about 22 → Zombie and Horny Mushrooms in Ant Tunnel III until 30.
The route at a glance
| Level | Train on | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10–14 | Ribbon Pig, Octopus, Green Mushroom | Henesys Hunting Grounds, Kerning Construction Site, The Rain-Forest East of Henesys | Low HP, safe, close to town |
| 15–19 | Green Mushroom, Bubbling | Tree Dungeon (Forest Up North IV), Dungeon Southern Forest III, Line 1 <Area 1> | Fast kills; Bubblings if you're near Kerning |
| 20–24 | Stirge, Jr. Necki | Transfer Area, Dangerous Steam (Stirges); Damp Forest (Jr. Neckis) | Best EXP per HP in the band; check the danger table for other Necki maps |
| 22–30 | Zombie Mushroom, Horny Mushroom | Ant Tunnel III, Deep Ant Tunnel I, Ant Tunnel Park | Densest maps, highest EXP per kill |
The monsters (Classic World numbers)
| Monster | Level | EXP per kill | HP | EXP per HP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ribbon Pig | 10 | 19 | 172 | 0.110 |
| Octopus | 12 | 23 | 191 | 0.120 |
| Green Mushroom | 14 | 26 | 233 | 0.112 |
| Stirge | 20 | 37 | 296 | 0.125 |
| Jr. Necki | 21 | 39 | 272 | 0.143 |
| Horny Mushroom | 22 | 41 | 403 | 0.102 |
| Zombie Mushroom | 24 | 45 | 436 | 0.103 |
EXP per HP is how much EXP you get for every point of HP you chew through. Higher means more efficient kills, but it ignores how many monsters a map has and how far it is from pots. That's why the route above doesn't just follow the highest number.
Levels 10 to 14: pigs, octopi and mushrooms
Fresh off your job advancement, you want monsters that die fast and don't hit hard.
- Ribbon Pig (Lv. 10) and Pig on The Rain-Forest East of Henesys, one of a community calculator's two safe picks at level 10.
- Octopus (Lv. 12) at the Kerning City Construction Site. It has the best EXP per HP of this early group.
- Green Mushroom (Lv. 14) on Henesys Hunting Ground III, once you're comfortable.
At level 10 no map is perfect yet, so expect a few extra hits per kill. That's normal, and it gets better fast.
Levels 15 to 19: the Ellinia tree dungeons
By 15 you can clear Green Mushrooms quickly (the Slimes on those maps are low-EXP filler). A community training calculator ranks Tree Dungeon, Forest Up North IV and Dungeon, Southern Forest III at the top for this range. The Ellinia tree dungeons are a longer walk from town, so stock up on pots before you head in.
If you'd rather stay near Kerning City, Line 1 <Area 1> in the subway has 64 Bubblings (Lv. 15, 28 EXP), the densest single-monster map for this range.
Level 20: Stirges in the Kerning subway
At 20, Stirges become the target. They're level 20 with only 296 HP for 37 EXP, and they fly, which suits ranged classes. Stirges only spawn on five maps, all in or near the Kerning City subway:
| Map | Stirges | Also on the map |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Area | 38 | Nothing else |
| Dangerous Steam | 38 | 5 Horny Mushrooms, 6 Zombie Mushrooms |
| Dark Cave | 35 | 9 Horny Mushrooms, 7 Zombie Mushrooms |
- Transfer Area is right next to Kerning City, so refilling pots and stars takes seconds, and it's Stirges only.
- Dangerous Steam and Dark Cave add a few mushrooms, which pay a little more per kill.
Expect crowds. According to community reports, Stirge maps were by far the most popular Lucky Seven (Thief) training spots in the second closed test, and on a busy channel KS (kill stealing) will wipe out any EXP advantage. If Transfer Area is packed, change channel or try the next map on the list before you settle for a half-empty spawn.
Level 21+: Jr. Neckis (pick the safe maps)
Jr. Necki (Lv. 21, 272 HP, 39 EXP) has the best EXP per HP in the whole 10–30 range. But most Jr. Necki maps also hold much stronger monsters, so check the map before you go:
| Map | Jr. Neckis | Danger | Verdict at Lv. 21–25 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damp Forest | 11 | Octopus (Lv. 12) and a couple of Slimes | Safe. The best pure Jr. Necki pick |
| Dangerous Croko I | 27 | 14 Ligators (Lv. 31) and 6 Crocos (Lv. 52) | Most Neckis, but you'll share the map with much higher monsters |
| The Swamp of Despair III | 19 | 28 Ligators (Lv. 31) | Risky until you can handle Ligators |
| Dangerous Croko II | 21 | 24 Crocos (Lv. 52) | Avoid at this level |
| Line 2 <Area 2> | 18 | 32 Jr. Wraiths (Lv. 34) and 57 Wraiths (Lv. 48) | Avoid at this level |
Monsters 10 or more levels above you are hard to hit and hit hard, so the "most Neckis" map isn't the best one if you're constantly potting. Damp Forest has fewer Neckis but nothing that threatens you.
Levels 22 to 30: the Ant Tunnels
Once you can take on Horny Mushrooms (Lv. 22) and Zombie Mushrooms (Lv. 24), head into the Sleepywood Ant Tunnels.
| Map | Zombie Mushrooms | Horny Mushrooms | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ant Tunnel III | 61 | 38 | None. The densest map in this level range |
| Ant Tunnel Park | 23 | 4 | 31 Evil Eyes (Lv. 27), and a store, so refills cost no walking |
| Deep Ant Tunnel I | 29 | 16 | 21 Evil Eyes (Lv. 27) and 2 Jr. Boogies (Lv. 35) |
Ant Tunnel III is the pick for raw density. Ant Tunnel Park trades some density for zero walking to the store.
Check your accuracy before you move up
In Classic World a miss still costs MP or a throwing star. Monsters above your level are harder to hit, so a map that feels bad at 20 can feel great at 25. If you're missing a lot, stay one band lower for a couple of levels. One community accuracy guide shows, for example, that a sample Thief build at level 20 doesn't have enough accuracy for level 24 Zombie Mushrooms, but the same build at level 25 hits them every time.
Class quick notes
- Thieves: Lucky Seven hits flying monsters efficiently, so Stirges are a strong pick, and Transfer Area's short trip to Kerning matters when you're refilling stars.
- Magicians: before 30 you have no Holy skills, so pick maps by density like everyone else. After 2nd job, Clerics get extra value from undead Zombie Mushrooms.
- Warriors and Bowmen: see the training page for your 2nd job (linked from the class pages) for class-specific picks.
