Cape Scrolls in MapleStory Classic World: STR, DEX, INT, LUK and DEF Scrolls
Capes have the widest scroll list of any armor slot in Classic World: seven families (Weapon Def., Magic Def., STR, DEX, INT, LUK and Accuracy), each in four tiers, for 28 cape scrolls. Every cape in the launch data has 5 upgrade slots. Capes are one of only three slots that take main-stat scrolls, alongside earrings and overalls.
Quick answer: The cape scrolls you want are the main-stat ones, and at launch they come from quests, not shops: Pia's Gift (level 42) gives a random Greater, and Taking Out the Alligators 2 (level 48) lets you choose an Intermediate. The only other named source is the random Magic Box from GM events. Community shop lists have Tulcus selling only the DEF and Accuracy Lessers. The main-stat Lesser recipes sit at Arcforge 10.
For how scrolling works in general, see the scrolling guide.

How to get cape scrolls
Shops (Lesser only)
Tulcus in The Swamp of Despair II sells Cape Weapon Def. Scroll: Lesser, Cape Magic Def. Scroll: Lesser and Cape Accuracy Scroll: Lesser. Two community shop lists agree on what Tulcus stocks but not on the price: one lists 20,000 or 40,000 mesos depending on the scroll, the other 15,000 across the board. Shop inventories aren't in the game data, so check in game before you budget. No shop list we found sells a cape STR, DEX, INT or LUK scroll, or anything above Lesser.
Quests
| Quest | Level | NPC | Scroll reward | How it's given |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pia's Gift | 42 | Rina | Cape STR, Cape DEX, Cape INT, Cape LUK scroll (Greater) | One at random from 4 |
| Taking Out the Alligators 2 | 48 | Ayan | Cape STR, Cape DEX, Cape INT, Cape LUK scroll (Intermediate) | You choose one |
"One at random" means the quest hands you one scroll from its list by chance; "you choose" means you pick it on the reward screen. Pia's Gift ends Pia's present chain in Henesys: it needs What Pia Borrowed done, and the Red Cape it asks for is handed to you when the quest starts. Taking Out the Alligators 2 is Ayan's follow-up in Perion after Taking Out the Alligators 1, and it's a real hunt: 120 Croco kills plus 50 Croco Skin, and Crocos are level 52 with 3,136 HP, four levels above the quest. Between them you can end up with two main-stat cape scrolls before level 50.
GM events (Magic Box)
Nexon's Grand Launch notes list Cape STR, DEX, INT and LUK Intermediate and Greater scrolls among the random results of the Magic Box (win a Scroll of Secrets in a GM event, trade it to Chun Ji at the Kerning City Construction Site for the box, then open it with Mr. Pickall in Kerning City). It's one random result from a long list, so treat it as a lucky bonus, not a plan. The same list also names Cape HP and MP scrolls, which don't exist in the launch item data.
Crafting (Arcforge)
| Scroll | Arcforge level | Gems | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cape Weapon Def. Scroll: Lesser | 7 | 3 Diamond | 10,000 |
| Cape Magic Def. Scroll: Lesser | 7 | 3 Sapphire | 10,000 |
| Cape STR Scroll: Lesser | 10 | 3 Garnet | 20,000 |
| Cape DEX Scroll: Lesser | 10 | 3 Garnet | 20,000 |
| Cape INT Scroll: Lesser | 10 | 3 Garnet | 20,000 |
| Cape LUK Scroll: Lesser | 10 | 3 Garnet | 20,000 |
Every recipe also needs 1 Processed Parchment and 10 Fragment of Magic, taught by Chrishrama in Sleepywood. The def scrolls sit at Arcforge 7 (character level 35). The four main-stat recipes are Arcforge 10, which needs character level 50, and one community source reports crafting stops at level 8 at launch. Until that changes, treat cape stat Lessers as unavailable. See the crafting guide.
What to put on a cape
With no stat Lessers on the market at launch, your real choice is between an Intermediate from the Alligators quest and a Greater from Pia's Gift. The Intermediate is far more likely to land (60% against 10%). If you need survivability instead, Weapon Def. and Magic Def. Lessers are guaranteed (100%). The full tier math is in which scrolls are worth it.
