Arcon's Blood, the Sparkling Rock and the Weird Medicine are all given to you when the step starts. You only carry them to the next NPC; you never farm or buy them.
Walkthrough notes
- Step 1: Maya has been sick for a long time. She sends you to Teo in Lith Harbor for the Weird Medicine.
- Step 2: Teo will only hand it over for a Sparkling Rock. He sends you to Sophia in the Perion Department Store.
- Step 3: Sophia needs 30 Squishy Liquids, 30 Leaves, 30 Octopus Legs and 1 Arcon's Blood, and tells you Manji in Perion has the blood.
- Step 4: Manji sends you to "the underground tunnel in the middle of the island" to defeat 75 Zombie Mushrooms and gather 40 Charm of the Undead. The game data has no drop source for the charm; its item text only says it's taken from an undead monster. Zombie Mushrooms are flagged undead in the data and live in those tunnels, so they're the likely source, but that's our inference, not a confirmed drop.
- Step 5: with Arcon's Blood in hand, bring Sophia the full material list.
- Step 6: Sophia makes the Sparkling Rock. Take it to Teo in Lith Harbor.
- Step 7: take the Weird Medicine back to Maya in Henesys for the hat.
- Farming tip: Stranger's Identity also takes Charm of the Undead, so any extra charms you pick up won't go to waste.
Where to find the monsters and materials
- Zombie Mushroom (Lv. 24), densest maps first: Ant Tunnel III (61), Ant Tunnel II (32), Deep Ant Tunnel I (29; mixed-level: 2 Jr. Boogie 2, Lv. 35), Ant Tunnel IV (23), Ant Tunnel Park (23), The Grave of Mushmom (13; mixed-level: 1 Zombie Mushmom boss, Lv. 55, plus 2 Jr. Boogie 2, Lv. 35), Ant Tunnel I (11), Deep Ant Tunnel II (9), Dark Cave (7). Ant Tunnel III is the pick: 61 Zombie Mushrooms plus Horny Mushrooms, nothing higher. Deep Ant Tunnel I and Ant Tunnel Park add Lv. 27 Evil Eyes. Skip The Grave of Mushmom at 21–24: its 66,640 HP boss is 31 levels above the Zombie Mushrooms you came for.
- The three etc. items have no drop source in the game data. Community reports (unverified, pre-launch drop tables):
- Squishy Liquid: Slime (Lv. 6), roughly 1 in 2 kills. Densest: The Tree That Grew II (30), The Forest North of Ellinia (26).
- Leaf: Dark Stump (Lv. 11), roughly 1 in 2 kills. Densest: West Domain of Perion (21), East Rocky Mountain IV and V (17 each).
- Octopus Leg: Octopus (Lv. 12), roughly 1 in 2 kills. Densest: Damp Tree-Forest (19), Damp Forest (15).
- Two-for-one tip: The Tree That Grew II has 30 Slimes and 12 Dark Stumps on one map, and Damp Tree-Forest has Octopus (19) next to Slimes (13). All three are far below level 21, so it's quick work.

Brown Bamboo Hat stats: Lv. 25, needs 10 DEX, 24 W.DEF, +10 HP, +1 ACC, 7 upgrade slots, any class. You can start the chain at 21, but you'll have to sit on the hat until level 25.
Finishing the chain also unlocks more quests: Maya's First Collection (Lv. 30, from Maya) and Manji's Old Gladius (Lv. 50).
Is it worth it?
Yes. It's one of the bigger payouts below level 30: 1,309 EXP on step 1 and 1,870 EXP on each of the other six, 12,529 EXP in all. A level-21 character needs 24,402 EXP to level, so the chain is about 51% of a level (less if you finish it later). Add 4,602 mesos, plus 40 Blue Potions and 15 Meat. The hat at the end has 7 slots, which makes it a strong scrolling base for its level. The cost is real, though: 75 Zombie Mushroom kills and 130 etc. drops, and three towns' worth of walking. Do the Ant Tunnel part while you're training there anyway.
