Manji's Old Gladius Quest Guide (Hero's Gladius) in MapleStory Classic World

Manji's Old Gladius is a 3-quest chain from Manji in Perion, open at level 50 if you finished Delivering the Weird Medicine (a level 21 quest). Manji gives you the battered sword of an old hero, and Chrishrama in Sleepywood reforges it from four rare materials. At the end you choose between the Hero's Gladius (a level 45 Warrior sword) and Skull Earrings. Total: 38,700 EXP (about 5.5% of level 50, 12,900 per step) and 4,737 mesos, plus 30 Blue Potions.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Getting the four materials

This chain is all about collecting one each of four rare items. What the launch data tells us:

• Star Rock: a guaranteed reward from [Forest of Patience] Sabitrama's Anti-Aging Medicine, the level 50 Forest of Patience run (see the jump quests guide). That quest needs the level 25 Sabitrama and the Diet Medicine done first, and you have to bring back a Double-Rooted Red Ginseng from the top of the forest.
• Piece of Ice: from Arwen and the Glass Shoe (level 29, Arwen the Fairy in Ellinia), but it's not guaranteed: the quest gives one of two items, Piece of Ice or Fairy Wing. The quest is repeatable, and the Glass Shoe itself comes off a Fire Boar per the quest text, so you may need more than one run.
• Ancient Scroll and Flaming Feather: no source in the game data (no quest gives them and no recipe makes them; drop tables aren't in the data). Chrishrama's own advice is to start by talking to Mike at Perion Dungeon Entrance. Note that What Pia Borrowed also eats an Ancient Scroll, so you need two if you're doing both chains.

Is it worth it?

Depends on your class. Our take assumes you'd pick whichever reward you'll actually wear:

• Warriors: the Hero's Gladius is a level 45 one-handed sword with 62 weapon attack, Fast speed and 7 slots (needs 90 STR, 40 DEX). Strong if you use a 1H sword.
• Everyone else: Skull Earrings are a level 50 earring with 38 magic DEF, +4 avoid and 5 slots. Decent, not exciting.
• The real cost is collecting four rare materials. If you've already done Sabitrama's level 50 run and Arwen's Glass Shoe, it's cheap. Otherwise it's a project.
