Legend of the Snail Quest Guide: Pia, Wing the Fairy and Mano's Rainbow Shell

Legend of the Snail is a five-step chain from Pia in Henesys Park, open at level 20. Pia's book tells of a Rainbow-colored Snail Shell that grants wishes, and the trail runs through Jay, Mrs. Ming Ming and Wing the Fairy to Mano. Total: 7,477 EXP (about 37% of level 20), 2,434 mesos and Blue Potion ×20.

Walkthrough notes

Step 1: Pia has The Snail Legend, a book about the oldest Snail in Maple World. The quest sends you to Jay, the book's original owner, who says the author was his great-grandfather Alloy.
Step 2: Mrs. Ming Ming (Alloy was her grandfather) points you to Wing the Fairy in Ellinia.
Step 3: Wing will reveal where Mano is if you bring 20 of each snail shell.
Step 4: Wing tells you Mano shows up in the thicket around the beach near Lith Harbor. Report back to Pia.
Step 5: defeat Mano in Thicket Around the Beach III and bring Pia the Rainbow-colored Snail Shell. The item description says it's only found from Mano, and the shell is untradeable, so you can't buy one off the Free Market. Mano is a single spawn on a 3,600-second (1 hour) respawn timer, so if someone just killed it, expect a wait. See our Mano boss guide for how the fight goes.

Where to find the monsters

You're level 20 and on Victoria Island by now, and the boat off Maple Island is one-way, so the big snail maps there are out. These are the densest Victoria Island spawns (counts per map from the game data):

Is it worth it?

Worth it for steps 1 to 4: 1,414 EXP on step 1 (about 7% of level 20) and 2,021 on each of the next three (exactly 10% of level 20 each), for 60 snail shells and some walking. That's most of the chain's 7,477 EXP and 2,434 mesos, plus 20 Blue Potions. Step 5 is a different deal. It needs a Mano kill (Lv. 20 boss, 7,420 HP) and the reward data lists nothing for it, so do it only if you're already fighting Mano or want the story finished.
