ThiefLUK · Fast and evasiveShield Scrolls in MapleStory Classic World: DEF and Accuracy Scrolls
Shields in Classic World take just two scroll families: Shield DEF and Shield Accuracy, each in four tiers, for 8 shield scrolls. Every shield in the launch data has 7 upgrade slots. There's no attack or stat scroll for shields at launch.
Quick answer: Tulcus is reported to sell the Shield DEF Lesser, and both Lessers can be crafted at Arcforge 5 (character level 25). No quest in the launch data rewards a shield scroll; the only official source of a Shield DEF Intermediate or Greater is the random Magic Box from GM events.
General mechanics: scrolling guide.
Every shield scroll
| Scroll | Stat | Tier | Success rate | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shield DEF Scroll: Lesser | Defense | Lesser | 100% | Weapon Def. +2 |
| Shield DEF Scroll: Intermediate | Defense | Intermediate | 60% | Weapon Def. +4, Magic Def. +2 |
| Shield DEF Scroll: Greater | Defense | Greater | 10% | Weapon Def. +6, Magic Def. +4 |
| Shield DEF Scroll: Chaos | Defense | Chaos | 10% | Weapon Def. +8, Magic Def. +6; 50% chance the item is destroyed on failure |
| Shield Accuracy Scroll: Lesser | Accuracy | Lesser | 100% | Accuracy +1 |
| Shield Accuracy Scroll: Intermediate | Accuracy | Intermediate | 60% | Accuracy +2 |
| Shield Accuracy Scroll: Greater | Accuracy | Greater | 10% | Accuracy +3 |
| Shield Accuracy Scroll: Chaos | Accuracy | Chaos | 10% | Accuracy +4; 50% chance the item is destroyed on failure |
DEF climbs +2/+4/+6/+8; Accuracy climbs +1/+2/+3/+4. Seven DEF Lessers add +14 weapon defense, seven Accuracy Lessers +7 accuracy.
How to get shield scrolls
Shops (Lesser only)
Tulcus in The Swamp of Despair II sells Shield DEF Scroll: Lesser (community-reported; shop inventories aren't in the game data). Two community lists agree he stocks shield Lessers, but one prices it at 20,000 mesos and the other at 15,000. The Accuracy Lesser isn't on the detailed list.
Quests
None. No quest in the launch quest data gives a shield scroll of any tier.
GM-event Magic Box
Nexon's Grand Launch notes list Shield DEF Scroll: Intermediate and Shield DEF Scroll: Greater among the random rewards of the Magic Box: win a Scroll of Secrets in a GM event, take it to Chun Ji at the Kerning City Construction Site for the box, and Mr. Pickall in Kerning City opens it into one item from a long list (ores, potions, Screws and many Intermediate and Greater scrolls). It's a lottery, not a farm. The same list names a "Shield Evasion Scroll", which doesn't exist in the launch item data (shields take Accuracy, not Evasion), so treat that entry as unconfirmed.
Crafting (Arcforge)
| Scroll | Arcforge level | Gems | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shield DEF Scroll: Lesser | 5 | 3 Diamond | 10,000 |
| Shield Accuracy Scroll: Lesser | 5 | 3 Garnet | 10,000 |
Each also takes 1 Processed Parchment and 10 Fragment of Magic. Learn Arcforge from Chrishrama in Sleepywood; Arcforge 5 needs character level 25. Crafting is the only sourced way to get the Accuracy Lesser. See the crafting guide.
Is a shield worth scrolling?
Only if it's a shield you'll keep. With DEF and Accuracy as the only options, this is a low-priority slot next to your weapon and gloves. See which scrolls are worth it.
