An I/L Wizard should chase ice-weak Fire Boars in The Burnt Land and Dangerous Valley through the 30s and early 40s, then switch to packed maps once Thunder Bolt is maxed around 50 (the Ant Tunnel, Dark Cave, and the Clang beach). At level 35 specifically, Fire Boars are the answer: that's roughly the level where, by community numbers, Cold Beam starts beating Energy Bolt on ice-weak mobs.

Quick answer: 30โ€“34: Line 1 <Area 1> (64 Bubblings) or Transfer Area (38 Stirges) with Energy Bolt. 35โ€“40: The Burnt Land V (26 ice-weak Fire Boars) with Cold Beam. 40: Ant Tunnel III/II. 41โ€“45: Dangerous Valley (21 Fire Boars + 13 Copper Drakes, both ice-weak). 47+: the pure Wraith lines (Line 2 <Area 3>, 68), or Lorang and Clang for lightning-weak Clangs. With a maxed Thunder Bolt, Ant Tunnel III and Dark Cave are a community calculator's top picks, but their mobs are Lv 20โ€“24.

The two rules for I/L maps

  1. Cold Beam wants ice-weak mobs. Community sources put weakness at +25% damage and resistance at -25%. Cold Beam's own skill text says ice-resistant enemies take reduced damage and can't be slowed, and Thunder Bolt's says lightning-resistant monsters aren't stunned.
  2. Thunder Bolt wants density. It hits up to six mobs around you, but on one mob even a maxed Energy Bolt hits harder. Community guides only recommend Thunder Bolt first if you consistently hit 3+ mobs per cast.

When to drop Energy Bolt (community numbers): on neutral mobs once Cold Beam reaches skill level 22 (level 38); on ice-weak mobs from skill level 15 (level 35).

I/L training spots by level

Monster levels, HP, EXP, elements and spawn counts below are from the launch game data. "EXP/min" figures are a community training calculator's estimates for sample builds, not measured runs. We don't rank maps by a theoretical "max EXP per hour"; kill speed and density decide. Mixed level means another monster on the map is 10+ levels above the main one.

Spawn counts aren't how many mobs are alive at once: each map's data also sets a monster cap, 17 to 19 on the subway and Clang maps. See spawn rate and map capacity.

Dangerous Valley is a strong I/L map in the early 40s because both of its mobs are ice-weak, and lightning mages do well on the pure-Wraith layout of Line 2 <Area 3>. On Hot Sand, the 13 Clangs are lightning-weak but the 25 Torties there have no weakness.

Where should an I/L train at 35?

The Burnt Land, for Fire Boars. Fire Boars (Lv 32) are weak to ice in the game data, and community numbers have Cold Beam overtaking Energy Bolt on ice-weak mobs at skill level 15, which a typical SP plan hits around level 35. The Burnt Land V has the most Fire Boars per map. Two things to know:

  • Bring MP pots. Fire Boars have no MP in the game data, so MP Eater does nothing there.
  • It's a walk. The Burnt Land V is 7 maps out from Perion (Deep Valley I and II, then Burnt Land I to V).

If The Burnt Land is crowded, change channel or fall back to Jr. Wraiths on Line 2 <Area 1> with Energy Bolt. Jr. Wraith is neutral to ice, though, so you lose the weakness bonus.

Why the Thunder Bolt numbers are so high

Those 11,780 and 19,318 EXP/min estimates assume every cast hits every mob in range. The model's own warning: check how many mobs you actually hit during normal movement, and if it's one per cast, use the Cold Beam pick instead. Remember what you're killing there: Stirges and mushrooms worth 37 to 45 EXP each, against 709,716 EXP to clear level 50 and 1,209,994 to clear level 60. Each kill is well under 0.01% of a level, so it only works if every cast really lands on a full group.

Accuracy check

Accuracy a Magician needs to never miss at equal level, from the community accuracy formula and the launch avoid values: Fire Boar (Lv 32, avoid 21) 70, Jr. Wraith (Lv 34) 82, Lorang (Lv 38) 79, Zombie Lupin (Lv 41) 95, Copper Drake (Lv 45) 92, Wraith (Lv 48) 104, Clang (Lv 49) 98. You get about 0.24 ACC per INT and 0.39 per level, per community formulas.

Maps to avoid as I/L

Level 60 and beyond

The 60s are thin on Victoria Island for I/L. Options: the Wraith subway lines, Ant Tunnel III with Thunder Bolt (only if each cast really hits a group), Dangerous Valley II for 17 ice-weak Red Drakes, or the skeleton camps past the Excavation Site: Camp 1 (20 Skeleton Soldiers, Lv 57, 3,872 HP) and Camp 3 (14 Officer Skeletons, Lv 63, 5,976 HP), which are neutral to ice and lightning. Skip Remains <Cliff>: its Commander Skeletons are ice-strong. Forgotten Hollow isn't available at Grand Launch; Nexon says it opens in November.

Build details are in the I/L Wizard guide. For the other paths, see F/P training spots and Cleric training spots.

Frequently asked questions

Where should an Ice/Lightning Wizard train at level 35?
The Burnt Land, usually The Burnt Land V, for ice-weak Fire Boars. Community numbers have Cold Beam beating Energy Bolt on ice-weak mobs from skill level 15, around level 35. Bring MP pots, since Fire Boars have no MP for MP Eater.
Where do I/L Wizards train at level 40?
A common level 40 pick is Ant Tunnel II or III with Cold Beam one-shotting the mushrooms. From 41, Dangerous Valley's Fire Boars and Copper Drakes are both ice-weak.
What is the best Thunder Bolt map in Classic World?
A community calculator gives the biggest numbers to the Ant Tunnel mushroom maps (Ant Tunnel III, 99 spawns) and Dark Cave once Thunder Bolt is maxed, provided you actually hit several mobs per cast. Those mobs are only Lv 20โ€“24, so if you hit one or two per cast, the Wraith lines or Clangs are better.
Are Clangs good for I/L?
Yes. Clangs (Lv 49) are weak to lightning, and Lorang and Clang is just 3 portals from Florina Beach's potion shop.
Should I/L train on Ligators?
No. Ligators are ice-resistant in the game data, so Cold Beam loses damage and can't slow them.
