Can You Play MapleStory Classic World and MapleStory at the Same Time? No, One at a Time
No. Nexon's FAQ says you can only have one game open at a time, so you can't run MapleStory Classic World and regular MapleStory side by side. You can play both on the same Nexon account, though. Just close one before you launch the other.
Quick answer: one game open at a time. Same account for both. Shared: NX and account sanctions. Not shared: characters, names, Maple Points, MVP status.
How the two games relate
Nexon treats MapleStory and Classic World as one game service under a single account. That's why you can't have both clients open, and it also explains what does and doesn't carry over.
| Shared between the two? | |
|---|---|
| Nexon account | Yes, one account for both |
| NX balance | Yes |
| Bans and account sanctions | Yes |
| Cash items you own | No. Inside Classic World, Signature Style Collection boxes can move between your own characters via the Cash Inventory, but nothing crosses to MapleStory |
| Characters | No, Classic World starts fresh |
| In-game names (IGNs) | No |
| Maple Points | No, MapleStory only |
| MVP benefits | No, there's no MVP in Classic World |
| Challenger World characters | No, it's MapleStory-only content |
Nexon's FAQ sums it up: NX is the only shared item, and game-specific features don't cross over.
Launching one, then the other
- Nexon Launcher: MapleStory sits in your library with a Classic World toggle. Classic World is a standalone client you download separately.
- Steam: the two games are bundled under the MapleStory listing.
Switching is just closing one client and starting the other. Setup details: how to download and play Classic World.
Bans carry over, so be careful
Because it's one account, a sanction in either game is enforced in both. If you get banned in MapleStory, your Classic World characters go with it. That's one more reason to stay away from bots and third-party programs. Classic World has its own anti-bot tool, the Lie Detector Test. See botting, bans and the Lie Detector.
Names are separate
Since IGNs aren't shared, the name you've held in MapleStory for years isn't reserved in Classic World. Someone else can take it there, and you can use a name in Classic World that's taken in MapleStory.
Your characters don't transfer
Classic World characters start as Beginners on Maple Island. There's no character transfer from MapleStory, and you can't move characters from Challenger World either. If you want to know how many you can make: 3 per account.
