Every classic Maple player has a story about a map taken over by bots. Classic World brings back a tool to fight them, and Nexon has been clear about the rules.

What counts as botting

Nexon defines botting as using a macro, a third-party program, or a physical method to play the game in a repetitive manner. Hacking tools are also listed as user abuse.

One account, one ban

MapleStory and Classic World run as one game service under a single account. A penalty in one world applies to the other. You can't get banned in Classic and keep playing modern Maple, or the other way round.

The Lie Detector Test is back

Citizens can buy a Lie Detector Test at the Citizen General Store (account-bound, 7-day duration). Use it on a character acting like a bot and they get a minigame. The item's own description adds two limits: it only works on a suspect who is hunting, and you can't use it on the same player again within 1 hour. If they fail, they're sent to the Truth Booth:

  • they have to stay logged in for a set time before leaving
  • no moving, no skills, no chatting, no items
  • no joining any content

You need to be a citizen first. See the citizenship guide.

Private servers

Playing on unauthorized MapleStory servers breaks Nexon's Terms of Service, and Nexon says it is pursuing legal action against private server operators.
